In an ideal world he scores 20+ goals for his club this season and then joins us next summer.

19 years old, 6,3" and played and scored goals for England at U17, U18,U19 & U20 levels. He could be great for us next season as that third striker behind Vardy and Iheanacho who offers something different. If he's half as good as his old man then we'll have a player on our hands. Alex Ferguson rated his dad better than Shearer and his dad had the fastest ever recorded shot in football at 114mph a whopping 16.1mph than the next ever recorded. To put that into context it would be like a 100m runner recording a time of 8.1 seconds compared to the next best.

Hopefully that DNA has spread far.

I live in Sheffield and the lad is very very highly regarded talent wise. He’s smashed all sorts of scoring records and could very well be the real deal.

Very well written article here (why the gu.com's sport writing is much better than their normal news I'll never know).

Some new information too. Didn't know Spurs and United had a similar problem. Nor did I know Hirst snr quit his Wednesday hospitality job over this.

Bottom line is - if Sheffield Wednesday had been really that keen on keeping George Hirst at the club, they'd have set everything in motion to do so.

Their loss is our gain. They have no one else to blame but themselves.

Glad to see the reporter included an important factor in this - that the Owls Talk thread has surpassed 100 pages.
