I think that every last drop of 'funny' has been extracted from the 'Was he any good' joke now, boys and girls.

Owlstalk are up to 126 pages on the thread about him leaving...

Jesus Christ.

Haven't they come to the "Maybe we should have sold him when he was in contract rather than risk getting nothing when he's out of contract"?

Kind of agree. They knew he wasn't happy, they knew he wanted to leave, they know premier league clubs are interested, they know premier clubs often have foreign sister clubs, they know they'll get sod all back if he goes abroad. Sounds like their directors messed up. They can get mad with a billionaire businessman and his club for acting in their financial interest if they want but I have little time for people who rail against a rotten system rather than trying to change it.

The system doesn't need changing.

All DOF's know that it is bad business to get into the last year of a players contract regardless of the players age. Wednesday wanted to f**k the lad over and then get compensation.

This isn't going to start a flood of young players going to Europe but it will remind clubs to do business in a correct fashion.

I would think most expected he'd sign for us after a year there

Got fetched off for England U19s half way through the second half. Barely got a touch so hard to judge. We were getting a right thrashing when I switched off.

Very well written article here (why the gu.com's sport writing is much better than their normal news I'll never know).

Some new information too. Didn't know Spurs and United had a similar problem. Nor did I know Hirst snr quit his Wednesday hospitality job over this.

What that article doesn’t reveal is how Wednesday fell out with the Hirst family about eighteen months ago. Wednesday pushed them into a situation too; promises broken over contracts, first team football

Echos my fears and concerns exactly over this type of transfer activity.....but written in a far more intelligent and erudite way than I could ever manage!

His father must have been pretty pissed off to leave a job at a club which practically worshipped him.
