lol so what.

not sure if its just cos it's cold outside now and supporting Leicester makes you hate football, or maybe it is just because people on here hate harry kane, but reading this and a few comments on twitter make it sound like one hell of a lot of people seem to have already forgotten quite how much fun this world cup was. we don't need to pretend we don't like football anymore. we don't need to give sports personality to someone 80% of the country have to google to find out what they look like. we fu cking love football because it was a fu cking superb summer of football and it was all lead by harry kane.

cycling ffs. really.

If we have to give it to a footballer on the grounds that it's a better sport then Raheem Sterling is more deserving than Harry Kane. He was a key part of a team that got 100 points in the Premier League. Which is much more of an accomplishment than playing well but ultimately achieving nothing as part of those Tottenham and England teams.

i'd give every award ever invented to sterling if possible but he's not nominated.

of those who are, kane should win it. and probably will. and I hope he does.

he won the golden boot, he was the captain of the team and the leader of the team that comfortably supplied moments throughout the summer that make all of the other moments offered by the other nominees pale into such incredible insignificance that, imo, it'd be rude if any other sport won any awards this evening.

So he was good at penalties and letting the ball bounce off him?

Literally nobody stands out this year.

what was undoubtedly the best sporting event and set of moments in the british sporting calendar this year? the world cup. we won a penalty shoot out for fu cks sake

who won the golden boot? captained the team? was the poster boy? kane.

it's such an obvious choice I don't understand why there are so many arguments, here

Beating and scoring quite a few goals against Tunisia, Panama, Colombia and Sweden in the best sport in the world (whilst winning no competitions) is just not a better achievement than being literally the best in the world at a reasonably popular sport. Harry Kane may have made you feel warm and fuzzy all summer, but that's not enough to justify him being a nominee, let alone winning.

Chris Froome must think everybody thinks he's a right ****. Wiggins and Thomas win it once and win this, he wins 4 and gets nothing lol

Correct decision, best achievement of the six.
