I’ve been looking at where ex academy players in recent reasons have ended up. Darnell Johnson, Lamine Sherif, Kanya Leshabela and Liam Moore(!) have all ended up at Spalding United.

Thought Darnel Johnson and leshabela might have a forged themselves a decent league 2/1 career - shows how difficult it truly is to make it and sustain it!

Johnson’s just left Spalding apparently. Not sure where he’s gone though.

Keith Weller was an immensely talented midfielder and forward, best remembered for his time at Leicester City, where he became one of the club’s greatest-ever players. Starting his career at Tottenham Hotspur, he gained recognition at Millwall before moving to Chelsea in 1970, where he helped the club win the UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup. However, it was at Leicester, from 1971 to 1979, that Weller truly flourished, showcasing his blistering pace, creativity, and goal-scoring ability. He earned four caps for England, scoring against Northern Ireland in the 1973–74 British Home Championship, further cementing his reputation as a top-class player.
After leaving England, Weller moved to the United States, where he played for the New England Tea Men and Fort Lauderdale Strikers before transitioning into coaching. He worked with various teams, including the Dallas Sidekicks and Sacramento Knights, leaving a lasting impact on indoor soccer. After retiring, he settled in Seattle, but tragically passed away in 2004 at the age of 58 due to cancer, leaving behind a legacy as a gifted and beloved footballer.

I was thinking about him the other day.

I bet his first touch and skill would still put most of the current squad to shame.

He’s done very well at League 1&2 level but not really had much of a run in the championship yet but the new Plymouth manager seems to like him.

I know he’s one we picked up from Blackburn but I always thought he had something about him.

Former Leicester star Ben Marshall playing in the 10th tier of English football

When Leicester signed Ben Marshall from Stoke City in 2012, it was regarded as a real coup for the then Championship outfit.

Marshall, who was 20 at the time, had recently impressed on loan at Sheffield Wednesday, so there was hope he could help fire City back to the top flight.

However, for all of his talent, the wide man failed to make an impression at the King Power and left just 18 months after arriving having scored nine goals in 61 outings.

By the age of 28, he found himself at non-league club Stoneclough FC and now he’s in the 10th tier with AFC Darwen, who play in the North West Counties League Division One North.

How Nigel Pearson described Ben Marshall

When Marshall left Leicester for Blackburn Rovers, Pearson told manager Gary Bowyer that they were signing a great talent but he just didn’t like Monday’s.

Marshall admits he wasn’t a very professional footballer and would often come into training having drunk the night before.

He would even go into the steam room at the training ground to try and flush out the alcohol from his system, so it’s easy to see why he didn’t fulfil his lofty potential.

Anyhow, the former England youth international still amassed just shy of 250 appearances in the Championship, which is certainly a commendable feat.

Shame really, no one to blame but himself. Thought he was older than he is as well!

David Stockdale appointed manager of absolute basket case club Farsley Celtic; he'd been manager of Blyth Spartans earlier in the season and I believe was up for the Stafford Rangers job.

Fair to say Blades fans not best pleased with Cannon so far, he's been hooked at half time tonight.

He was awful. Literally doesn't move

Selling Tom Cannon for a profit is some of the best business the club has done in years. Dont know why some of our fans were up in arms about it, he's not very good.

Certainly made up for buying him

Almost 33 years after first interviewing David Lowe when he signed as a player for Leicester, we did it all again after his Blackburn side won at West Brom last night. He’s still the nicest of blokes and loved his time with #lcfc … especially that top bins goal against Spurs ⚽️

He played quite well last night without looking like scoring. Good movement and always involved. Cannon was a complete passenger and subbed at half time. Selling him for a small profit was good business.
