I'm gutted at the Brexit Party news as my local Labour candidate for Loughborough had a real good shot at the seat which is now probably a safe bet for the tories. He's the sort of MP Labour need more of, not a momentum backed lunatic or a Blairite centrist.

Muslims are being promoted to positions like Chancellor in the Conservative party rather than leaving it.

I’m not so sure that she’s the only one saying it if there’s any truth in any of the linked articles

With the shift in the party to the right I wonder what Saj’s chance of ever becoming PM are ?

If it’s 5000-1 I might sneak a quid on it

On current polling with or without the Brexit Party Labour aren't going to win Tory seats with majorities of over 4,000.

He's the 9/1 favourite to be next Conservative leader.

Bookies obviously don't see that much "Islamophobia" either - although I think Priti Patel is going to be the next PM.

2017 majority is literally at 4,000. Outgoing MP in Nicky Morgan, so there's a new, relatively unknown candidate, I just thought there was a real chance as he seems to be doing some fairly successful groundwork (it's his leader who seems to be the problem for most), so maybe over the next few weeks he can reign it in.

I guess those odds are pretty meaningless

They’ve got Rees Mogg next at 16s and Rory Stewart who won’t even be a parliamentarian at 33s

If Labour were in a position to win seats like Loughborough they would be on course to win the election, they are polling 10pts lower than they were when they got this close.

Looks a surefire Conservative hold with an increased majority on current figures.

From Priti Patel’s Wiki page

A controversial figure, Patel has been criticised by political opponents for defending the tobacco and alcohol industries,[3] and for advocating threatening the Republic of Ireland with food shortages during Brexit negotiations.[4][5] Patel said her comments were "taken out of context" and she did not refer specifically to the risk of food shortages.[4][6]

Who is it, is it the same guy that went for it in 2017? Because I was in Loughborough constituency then and he even nearly convinced me. His name alludes me now now though.

An increased majority? So at least of one then?

No the guy in 2017 was Jewel Miah who was only selected as the candidate a couple of months before the election. The candidate now is Stuart Brady.

Weird one this general election isn’t it?

As a young person, Labour really doesn’t appeal to me; the way I see it is their policies are so orientated by this magic money tree. I, for one understand the university market is a bit messed up, I intended to go to uni next year and still the thought of “free tuition fees” does not excite me, where is this money going to come from?

Their manifesto has gone too far left, like the distribution of money to the lower quartile in society through the £10 min wage, I just don’t understand. Like take my old Sunday job for example, last year I got paid £4.75 per hour and vice-versa with 2 other people my age, but if there was a £10 min wage instead of employing 3 people, companies would employ 1 and just ensure productivity is higher. Policies like these 2 in particular, I really don’t understand.

and as for the tories :@

Sajid Javid isn't a Muslim. Interesting that you assumed he was though.

Really?
I read this the other day and it states he is in here.
https://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/rod-liddle-spectator-muslim-voting-general-election-rosie-duffield-sajid-javid-a9180991.html

Mr Javid - who is himself Muslim – took to Twitter to retort: “Not clear if the Rod Liddle comment is supposed to be a joke – but it’s not funny and not acceptable. No community in our country should be put down that way.”

Lazy reporting that, he isn't religious. I thought that was fairly common knowledge to be honest.

It doesn’t really matter to me, if religion doesn’t spill into their politics I’d not bother to research it.

I hadn’t even thought of it until seen that article.
I’m not doubting what you say though as he doesn’t come across as religious.

Isn't the problem that we hardy know whay Corbyn would do under any circumstances? but the chances are it would be the wrong thing.  He has a history of backing the wrong horse doesn't he?

Friends with terrorists?  CHECK.  Failure to get rid of Anti-Semites from the party?  CHECK.  Idolises Socialist policies which have literally failed everywhere over Capitalism which had led the vast majority of the world from poverty? CHECK.

Not sure that Latin America, most of Africa, a lot of Asia and around 20% of the US (you know, the greatest capitalist success story ever) would agree with you on the "lifting the majority out of poverty" part. Not saying it doesn't work some of the time, but....

(When it comes to Latin America, however, capitalism - usually the US CIA-backed kind - is very good at picking areas where socialism "isn't working" and then violently overthrowing them. Take Bolivia right now, for instance - though the current incumbent should have known better than to give them an excuse by going for more terms than the constitution allowed him to.)

That's Lord Farage, Her Majesties Ambassador to the United States of America to you Matt!

Hope he's looking forward to being called out in a diplomatic fashion by President Warren come 2020, then.

Why is that interesting? He's been called "Britain's first Muslim cabinet minister" by everyone from the BBC to the Guardian.

I'm a Christian - just not a practising one.

Has he? That would also be interesting given that he isn't. Stop digging.

He has in some place, or at least the first from a Muslim background.

There is a difference between non practising and not religious though. I grew up Christian, I'm not now. I'm firmly Atheist. If I was non practising I would still believe but I wouldn't go to church, or follow any of the rules. As I understand, Javid considers himself not religious, so he's not a non practising Muslim, or at least that what I read in one piece about him. But his wife is devout Christian, so maybe he's switched to that.

My point is that not only is Javid not a Muslim, but Sayeeda Warsi served in Cameron's Cabinet so to describe Javid as Britain's first Muslim Cabinet Minister would be incorrect.
