urban fox Posted 11 February 2020 Posted 11 February 2020 HMM. Its not really comparable in terms of what is spent. Look at the current value of the Liverpool squad, which is infinitely higher than what they paid for some of those players. In 2016, the current value of our squad was still seen to be low, despite the fact that we sold a couple of them for £30m and Mahrez for £60m a couple of years later. We were still a squad of bargain basement prospects, journeymen and misfits that somehow for that one magical season (and a European tour) seemed to gel into something far greater than its parts. The fees that these Liverpool players would now command makes them a very valuable squad indeed. Also prices have inflated ridiculously since they actually bought many of these players.
davieG Posted 11 February 2020 Author Posted 11 February 2020 Not forgetting the chasm between what ours were paid and what the Liverpool team are paid even when they were rubbish.
Dahnsouff Posted 11 February 2020 Posted 11 February 2020 @urban fox Agree with you, but that feels like it misses the point, at least in part. Our title winning team was as you rightly said, a ragtag bunch of misfits and toerags (not really) who got their sh*t together for one amazing season, made up of cheap transfers and freebies. Whereas Liverpool's team contains an 80m center back, the most expensive goalkeeper in the world (Pre-Kepa) plus several other expensive signings like Keita and Fabinho, even attempting to compare what they may (or may not) achieve is like comparing apples and oranges. Apologies if I grabbed the wrong end of the stick regarding your post!
Tielemans63 Posted 11 February 2020 Posted 11 February 2020 Just the £5m a week on wages. So cheap....
HitchinFox Posted 11 February 2020 Posted 11 February 2020 Great to see that, even when they have won the Champions League and the World Club Cup, broken a number of records, "charmed world football", probably go an entire season undefeated and even made Paul Merson ejaculate in his undergarments, the word that will define "Liverpool" is.... ....cheap.
crazies Posted 11 February 2020 Posted 11 February 2020 Total crap Blackburn won it with a 30 mill budget they were only in the league 2 or 3 years before they won it 😂😂 it it was called walkers millions S A S done it for them Chelsea didn’t exist at the time neither did Man City. Liverpool Man U Arsenal and even villa were pushing on at the time pre 2010
Trav Le Bleu Posted 11 February 2020 Posted 11 February 2020 9 hours ago, Xen said: I could sell a house for £100k then buy another house for £120k - doesn't mean I got it for a 'cheap' £20k. Aww Liverpool have done well on sales, admittedly, fleecing Coutinho to Barca for a ridiculous sum and then moving on crap like Solanke and Ward (sorry) for way more than they were worth. Still doesn't mean that they've been thrifty when buying in the market (which is what all these articles are trying to imply) To be fair, £120k is pretty cheap for a house.
Lambert09 Posted 11 February 2020 Posted 11 February 2020 The article should just be 'Liverpool Pulled Barcelona's pants down'
HybridFox Posted 11 February 2020 Posted 11 February 2020 Ignoring the millions they spent over the past few seasons then. Load of sh***
Wymsey Posted 11 February 2020 Posted 11 February 2020 Poor journalism; especially as it's been pointed out on here alone that it's incorrect. Try not to click on the link, to avoid giving the editor's website more publicity.
Sly Posted 11 February 2020 Posted 11 February 2020 I HATE LIVERPOOL ....... more than any other team.
Pliskin Posted 12 February 2020 Posted 12 February 2020 Very strange article..... but what more can you expect from sports media.... I’m sure they spend all of their spare time locked in boxes.
