Wood flooring

Recommended Posts

We have wood flooring not sure if it's solid or veneered although it looks solid.

MrsG has been dragging furniture around and even though I've got these felt pads on the bottom it's left streaky marks

I'm looking for the best way to clean/restore the finish, has anyone else who's got wood floors that's has a good solution they can pass on to me please.

I await a flood of serious responses and some jokey ones as per the norm on Foxestalk.

Fine Belt sander, with the grain, and osmo oil (Satin poly x) , which lasts forever. Might seem expensive but it goes a long way and is very quick to apply, it’s wax and oil so it doesn’t scratch.

Works fine on veneer and solid wood.

did my stairs and doors with it a couple of years ago, house fell over though

I don't think it needs sanding they aren't scratches just smears, so just need to clean restore the existing finish. I hope.

Alcoholic hand sanitizer, and if you’re struggling to get that, methylated spirits. They’re the same thing.

Don’t know how to fix it but I have an idea as to how to prevent it reoccurring. Depends how much you love her :P

Was going to say there is some oil, maybe linseed but I’ve definitely just made that up, that does the job.

Danish oil is decent.  I've just got through a tin nourishing an old wooden cabinet

Well we’ve been married a long time and the house layout is forever changing I’ve even thought I’ve entered the wrong house before now so I’ve long resigned myself too it. We’ve ever had wood floors before.

Have you tried teak oil? 3 0r 4 quid a bottle from Wilkos. Rub it on with a rag.

I’ve used it on furniture as I have other stuff like Daniel oil but they were relatively small compared to my lounge, hall and dining room floors. I was looking for some thing I could use with some form of mop.

If you are on fb. Or can google it. Find JLR flooring. He should be able to help. His old man was one of the best floor layers in the country. To the point he quit as he was paid more to teach from germany to japan. His lad, my mate since about 5 has taken over the mantle in recent years. He should be able to advise.

If you cant find him, drop me a DM and I'll provide you with his mobile.
