The Situation.

You pay £30m for a PL player who hits the ground running and helps you gain more points.

You pay £15m for a player from abroad who has never played in this country let alone the PL and they may well struggle to adapt.

You could buy from the Championship and hope they step up but someone like Maddison will cost a lot more than £20m nowadays.

Has Perez hit the ground running?

Besides October/November we weren’t actually that good even when we were winning most games. We were taking our chances but not being decidedly superior. We played two teams far better than us in top 2, the players thought they were in a title race and were demoralised as result. Chuck in rumours about Rodgers being keen on Arsenal, transfer speculation, some odd team selections, bad luck and another demoralising defeat vs Villa alongside a regression to the mean, it’s a recipe for disaster.

He’s not fkin useless, he’s an adequate squad player and a ‘water carrier‘ cover for Ndidi. BR dropped them in it tonight playing that formation. Mendy’s leaving at the end of the season anyway so don’t stress!

Thank you.

Mendy is blamed for a myriad of reasons, not least of which is that he is one of the last Claudio signings post 2016 that has held on and done what they were asked to do. Puel's favor poisoned him for a huge lot of you all and it's frankly embarrassing what has transpired since.

You’re guessing as are those who make the connection between his improved contract and the players form.

Havent we been trying to get Maddison to sign an extended contract? Hardly points to no budget.

We are all guessing it is a public forum.  We not in the board room discussing facts. I merely offered a scenario which would make the change we seeing make some sense, I never said it is what happened.

There is lots of things that point to having no or little spare budget.

The fact we had barely any activity in January.

The fact we have a very high wages to turnover ratio.

The fact our profits have evaporated.

The fact we have sold a high value player in each of the last few summer windows.

Maddison not signing his contract might be an indicator our budget isnt enough to offer him what he thinks he is worth.

For some reason every year there is people on here who think we have lots of money to spend, when the accounts and activity never back that up.

We have spent money over the years but not nearly as much as people think in relation to other clubs .......we have obviously spent badly in a few instances but then so has everyone else ... the idea we have ‘sugar daddy’ owners is quite widely held out there but plainly isn’t true ...

I keep seeing this.

Can someone explain why a manager (who it seemed all the players think highly of) signing an extended contract, with a payrise, would have a detrimental  effect on the players?

Surely it would be the complete opposite?

Cos the players are working their ass off, winning the games, and seeing nothing ‘genius’ about the manager techniques. Whereas the manager is getting all the plaudits.

If you were at work working your ass off and your manager gets all the praise and a big pay rise it will affect some workers, it’s human nature.

I'm not sure football can be used as a comparison to everyday jobs. It's one of the rare occurrences when the manager often gets paid less than his workers. Funny old game 😂

After another disappointing day and performance, its looking like we are completely lost as a team.

I cannot fathom how a team who wins 8 in a row and smashes Southampton 9-0 can suddenly be so toothless? Seeing Southampton take apart Watford and Norwich is quite sad really, Watford was a tough place to do and a decent point for us apparently, yet Southampton do what we should be doing.

The current situation is getting worse by the day and we really look lost. What can we do to change it? BR has no idea!
