I wouldn’t be surprised to see TOP go big.

He’s a businessman with aspirations of narrowing the gap - I don’t think he’ll want that gap to get more polarised.

Depends what your definition of going big is I suppose.

Like all clubs we will take a hit from Covid-19, although finishing 5th and EL qualification means our finances are presumably pretty sound.

But we owe a lot of money to KP for the training ground loan, and KP itself is presumably having a torrid time financially.

I think we might offer some more contracts and make a couple of signings, but can't see us having a massive net spend.

I think the only clubs that will "go big" so to speak will be Chelsea and Man Utd (of course).

The clubs who take a big chunk of money through the gates will have an easy job to show lost revenue.  These clubs also have the largest commercial revenues - they will find it fairly easy .....we, on the other hand ......

That's exactly the problem imo. They'll be guaranteed more game time than before this idiotic rule, making the choice even easier.

doesn't make sense, you have not thought it through.

A team can  only field players for a total of 990 mins pergame.

You are right when saying fringe players at big clubs will get more mins, but it will also mean that starting players will get less.

Swings and roundabouts for me, but it will mean higher wage bills to k eep up, so in that  sense it will favour clubs who have unlimited.

For what it is worth, I think we may well be more favoured than Arse Or spurs, but obviously for ManC, Chelski its a no brainer.

There seems to be a reluctance by players to be back up players at clubs like LCFC where as they'll all jump at the chance to sit out most of the season on the bench at Man C, Man Utd, et al.

is it just about £££s or is there some kudos involved?

...it all goes hand in hand!!!

So far as most players are concerned, more money and having Manchester United on your cv is a win, win.

It makes you wonder about the players who stay at a club all their careers, are they truly the ones upholding the ethos of a professional sportsman, but cynics would say perhaps they were just not good enough.

This is why champions league was massive. Had we got CL, our income would have substantially increased and we could have spent a lot more on wages and transfer fees and really established ourselves quicker as a top club.

There’s an obsession with spending, 99% of players cost less than probably £5m. Most of that 99% aren’t suitable signings but if Atalanta can build a squad to challenge the Italian elites on a championship wage budget then we can certainly build a better one. Superb recruitment beats superb budgets.

Its frustrating that bigger clubs can easily outspend us but it’s self-defeating to see it as insurmountable

I agree with this, but the reality is that finding bargains now is becoming incredibly difficult. Football clubs have invested heavily into their scouting networks and everyone knows who the talents are nowadays, and they are linked with all the big clubs as soon as they emerge. Look at that Bellingham from Brum going to Dortmund for £20m.

I think there's a gap in the market for bringing unpolished players. Those that can be coached to improve and have the right mentality. That is where we should be aiming. Mahrez, Kante, Maguire, Maddison, Vardy were all decent players before they came here but we coached them into really good players. Big clubs like United, Liverpool can splash cash on proven players and get it wrong. We simply cannot and I'd rather we stick to this proven method and bring young, hungry players who may want to use us as a stepping stone. Over the past few years our profile in world football has increased partly due to some of these players using us as a stepping stone, and whilst it's not something I'd want us to be, if it helps us to progress as a club it can only be good. If we keep getting it right, we will end up being a club that the best players will want to come to and stay.

This is the one of the main reasons why I was so livid about our capitulation after Christmas and especially with only 10 games to go and a 14 point advantage.

We all know that the big teams will mortgage their clubs to sweep in and buy all the better players worldwide at discounted prices. Not finishing top 4 and qualifying for Champions League we are less attractive to better players and will not have that Champions League money. Also the 5 substitution rule is basically a gift to the bigger clubs who can now guarantee quality fringe players with more playing time during the season, in Europe and the Cup games. Don't know why any of the so-called lesser teams ever agreed to such a rule. Pathetic. Mind you FIFA probably didn't even consult with the smaller teams. They just want the big clubs in the big competitions anyway. Even the stupid talking heads on Sky etc keep going on about, well we need the bigger clubs in the Champions League. They were doing my head in. Almost willing us the fold.

All told I think it was a chance that we will probably never see again, getting into the top 4. Not for at least a generation anyway.

I strongly feel the so-called shit*y big teams will only get bigger and the smaller teams will be fighting for 6-10 for respectability and safety.

In the bitter end all the mega rich teams will have to leave their domestic leagues and form a European Super League. A rumour that has been bouncing around for some time now. Only inevitable.

To be honest with or without CL we will be chasing the same type of player... we are looking to break top six on a regular basis. A season of CL wouldn’t change a players mind of whether arsenal, Man U are a better option. We need to sustain our level and hopefully be trying to fight again next season. When we won the league the players we got in weren’t world class...

Agree about the players after we won the league mate. Definitely. Take care. Hope you and yours are well and safe mate.
