Absolutely nothing preventing us in the last 6 years from taking the very best 11-16 year olds in the Midlands. I know many are settled at other academies but it happens up and down the country every season. This lag hasn't been helped by our desire to improve things across the board.

The academy has been way down the list of priorities. Fair enough but it isn't mutually exclusive with the first team and could and should have been looked at earlier. The change to the transfer rules due to Brexit has been coming for years and yet the club opted to do very little about that as well.

There are a few variables preventing transfers for signed boys 9 to 16. It's not all down to the club.

The main thing that has stopped LCFC in the past has been the budget, as there was no budget for signing players from other acadamies until 17/18 from other clubs. LCFC have taken players from Northampton and Coventry under the EPPP system since having a budget for transfers. In an ideal world you sign the top players as early as possible within your area. In reality the budget should be minimal as the job should be comprehensively nailed as early as possible.

Leicester are now the dominant club across the East Midlands for Academy recruitment, and should be the best in the East Midlands Region for a very long time as long as the realisation remains that it is very important to set the standards strataspherically high.

Then as you correctly say, is it in the best interests of a player to transfer clubs if they are settled?

They have to want to come, and parents have to see a reason to come, it's a huge commitment for parents especially if they have to travel a longer distance outside of the county.

The players also have to have the support to be able to attend, not all have this. I know for example Derby did bus in kids from Birmingham, Nottingham and Leicester.

I can also tell you from experience that some clubs will bend the rules to get players to sign for them.

Leicester 100% will not do this, and rightly so, they are very well ran, in terms of complying with the Premier league and F.A regulations.

The lag isn't just a lcfc problem. Its a people problem. There isn't the realisation that Ronaldo was once that small shy 9 year old boy who loves football. Therfore it's not seen as important, and the desire as you write it, isn't the same to get the academy organised and scruitenised bang on with investment in recruitment and coaching as it is when you go up to the 18s 21s and 1st team, as they don't see a Ronaldo or Messi, they see a nice little chap.

I think Thomas is a good example of the issues: No real idea that he was going to step up until he trained with the senior squad, and he only did that because of the Covid emergency. Rodgers would want an academy that would see and develop this talent without him having to do the work himself.

There was a idea he was going to step up. He was the captain of the England u17 squad.

Good to see the U18s and U23s with a lack of attackers and wingers too. We wanted the academy to mirror the first team and now we've got it 😂

Very strange that we are also playing Flynn at centre back with Nelson on the bench

20' - Brilliant last ditch tackle from Clark to stop Liverpool going 2-0 up

We just seem to be smashing it up the wings to our wide players and not much else, 10 men Liverpool the better team so far

McAteer is a very promising player, not much hype but just effective. Very much a Luke Thomas type. Great to see him step up from the U18's well. Him, Tavares and Terell Pennant were the 3 key men in the 18 months I watched of them up to the pandemic.

Full Time - Leicester 2-2 Liverpool

Leicester come from behind twice with goals from Wakeling and McAteer to get a point against Liverpool, both sides having chances to win the game

Liverpool finished the game with 9 men as one of their players is shown a 2nd yellow card for time wasting

With West Ham winning against Arsenal on Saturday and todays result Leicester sit in the relegation zone, 1 point behind West Ham

Each side have 1 match left - West Ham face Arsenal on Friday 7th, Leicester face Liverpool on Monday 10th, should West Ham win we would go into the final game needing a win and a massive goal swing to go above Arsenal.

Should West Ham lose and Leicester draw, our better goal difference would save us. Should West Ham draw only a win would mean we survive.
