Villa, Everton and Leeds will be financially ****ed in any of them get relegated. Out of the 3, I still think Villa could struggle over the season. Theyve done well so far but they still have some utter shite in their team/squad.

Everton had one of the highest wages percentage compared with turnover in the league even before this summer’s spending, at something like 85%. (Close to ours) God knows what it is now, but if they don’t get European football they might struggle.

I wonder if we're mindful of the post January collapse last season and have kept a bit back for a couple in the January window to freshen competition up and keep us sharp. Or we're just skint!

This should have been  a great window for those with money available from owners to spend it - but it didn’t quite work out like that as clubs generally stood firm on valuations

however, if the virus is still playing havoc come January across Europe then some clubs may be desperate and buying an asset for way below its market value is straightforward good business.

Half of those players would go if they go down plus parachute payments now are designed for teams to not get fvcked anymore. It's not like it was 20 years ago when the likes of us/Leeds/Wednesday suffered upon relegation.

Villa's squad doens't look too bad now for me. People forget this is only Smith's second full season in charge of Villa and when he first took over in the Championship he had plenty of aging/loan  players. They always needed to get loads in last summer because they lost so many. Everton will be nowhere near relegation.

Amazing how we've spent so little in the last 5 years but still arguably progressed more than any other team. You could make an arguement for Wolves but they've spent over twice as much as us in the last 5 years

That's net, we've probably spent far more than them in terms of totals. What we've done is sold well and reinvested it all back into the team.

There was a really good article somewhere on how selling well is critical to sustainable growth. It mainly talked about Liverpool but we're really good at it.

Can’t remember who it was - said he knew someone who had been told by a finance guy at the club that we would only spend a bit more than we took in.

Anyone bothering to look at our accounts and take note of what we do financially could come to that conclusion. As I've said before, unless we do something outside of the norm in terms of owner investment or borrowing, the money wouldn't be there to spend huge amounts outside of sales.

Some on here seem to think we can pump £80m on players without selling, it's not going to happen, if it does that money will come back in a future window. We'd be lucky the way our wages were to be able to spend £20/£30m net.

We've been hamstrung in terms of free money by the large wage bill, now that's set to drop substantially. I'd image that will then be used to pay off the loan to KP for the training ground. The loan though gives us flexibility, as KP can obviously decide to service the loan as and when they want.

We also have loan facilities, so there are ways of finding funds if we really wanted to. But as I say, what we spend on transfers is generally exactly what we've made on sales if you compare it over time.

People say skint, I think that sounds too negative. We've got money, we're just deciding to spend it in other ways and not just transfers (ie. Wages and Infrastructure).

We've been fantastic at it, wouldn't be shocked if we already know who is likely to be the next out. Not because we necessarily want to sell them, but because top players attract interest and they are likely to want to go.

I think I read somewhere (and I might have just dreamt it) that PL clubs have to pay back a big chunk of TV money due to the Covid situation.  For us it's £17m.  Money that would presumably have been already accounted for.

Yep... and they've not even done deals with some rights holders yet. The money we need to refund could be pretty significant.

Except the last 5 years where they have spunked almost £100m into the team!

Not bad imo

100m Over 5 years ...:: the perception of the average football fan out there is that our owners spend fortunes on the club - they don’t. But they are superb owners because they generally get things right .... whether it possible to continue to get things right is the question !

I’m talking in one window not over 5 years. That’s £20m a year which is what I’d expect.

Don’t forget we’ve had huge windfalls from winning the league and the champions league.
