We seem to score a lot of goals in the second half of games and did a little research using the following site

https://footystats.org/clubs/england/leicester-city-fc

This season, 69% of our goals have come in the second half and it was 58% last season. 38% of our goals have come in the last 15 minutes of games and it was 26% last season which shows the disproportionate manner of our goals in the final 15 minutes of games.

Why is it that we are so good at scoring late on or is it more that we don't start games as well?

Is it just that our fitness levels are better than most and our relentless attacks finally break teams down in the second half who try and squeeze us or is it more that teams are more desparate in the second half and we are able to counter on them with the attacking players we have in the side?

Pace imo. We have fast players the more tired the other team gets the more dangerous it becomes. Look at under going in behind and getting it into Vardy late game as an example.

I think it is the recent rope a dope tactics we have employed against Man City, Arsenal and Leeds.  Keep it tight first half and then go for it in the second with attacking subs.

Arsenal away is a recent one but do take your point. We seem to counter and beat teams 3 or 4 quite often when we're winning 1-0 after 60 mins.

I find that interesting when we're intent on being a side that likes to control the game and retain possession, that the stats actually day we're more dangerous on the counter attack or playing more direct as we're likely to do in the last 15 minutes of games. Although I think the possession game and relentless attacks must tire the opposition and can lead to space in behind to go direct in the last 20 mins of games, particularly if the opposition is chasing the game. The rope and dope tactics were refreshing to see in our away games this season but I can't see that working against a team that won't have a go at us.

I’ve said this for a long time and mentioned it in my reasoning for why Vardy is one of the greatest strikers ever.

It happens because when teams have to come out at us, we have 1 of the worlds greatest strikers who is unplayable when you give him any sniff.

Teams have to do a West Ham to nullify him(sit 2 banks of 4 and leave 1 up top). It’s the only way to make it hard against us.
So if we take leads in games were probably one of the hardest teams in the league to play against when chasing a game.

Another game another second half goal fest. I think today we had too much for Braga and they gave up after we scored our second but the football we played towards the end especially was sensational.

Totally this. We have often been absolutely ruthless in winning games in the second half.

Tonight is the perfect example. 2nd goal put is in a solid position, 3rd wasn't too far away and after that Braga got progressively worse and we could've had 5 or 6 by the end. It's great to watch but I think in some respects it hides our creative struggles in much tighter games because people can point to how many goals we've scored.

I see it as a sign of versatility, which is where Rodgers deserves great credit.

Those rope-a-dope tactics were largely born of necessity - due to our unfit squad and need to conserve what resources we have. What differs is that we've shown we can actually play that way effectively instead of capitulating, as we did regularly under Puel and during the early part of Rodgers' tenure when trying to play that way against 'stronger' possession teams.

It's like we've re-learnt how to counter-attack after three years scratching our heads. Maybe it's personnel, maybe it's just training, but it feels good.

Very good point. My only concern with the shift in tactics is can we manage that effectively as we can't play those rope and dope tactics throughout the season when teams like West Ham and Villa have set up to frustrate us and if we try to play the possession game that BR likes can we switch back over that quickly. I've only seen one top team being able to do this effectively over the last 10 or so years and that was Mourinho's Inter side. So far the signs are good as we've controlled the Europa league games with BR's usual philosophy and conceded to the counter attack in league games against Man City and Arsenal. Will we be able to continue that throughout the season?

Which makes it all the more painful that we're not there to witness it😕

It's a little of all that's been mentioned but one thing I've noticed is that we use the Ball better later in games. As the clock ticks on we're letting the Ball do the work and find the spaces better.

It might have something to do with teams tiring a little against us. There's nothing worse than having to chase the ball all the time, Mentally the body give up which allows space which we're exploiting.

Also when we bring Vardy on second half defenders are tired and he's fresh with his pace.

But it's not only his pace, He's becoming a very accomplished player with so many skills added to his game. He's playing with his head now and not just the pace he relied on initially.

He's becoming an all round complete Striker.

Long may it continue.
