Dominant and impressive so far. Huge shame Bethell that he couldn't get the century, plenty to like about him. Good time for Root to come in when we have a big lead already, rarely fails in that situation.

When we get going we really can go big.

Another player coming in and quickly settling into the side like  duck to water.

Travis Head has put the Aussies in a strong position and India already a wicket down.

Mitch Marsh with a shocker of a non review though!

On the honours board at Lords for batting and bowling.

Hat trick.

All in 10 Tests.

Atkinson: "Test Cricket? Completed it mate."

Does it without even looking like he's trying too lol

In over 40 years of watching England test cricket, this is the most enjoyable side I’ve witnessed.

Win, lose, or draw, it’s pretty much always great entertainment and that’s all you want as a fan.

And now they have a reputation that gives them a psychological edge over a lot of the other teams, which at the highest level is so important.

Yes it is entertaining but so is the moaning on the BBC comments page from people who obviously are having none of it .

I can't read those comments anymore - they do my head in. Not just on cricket but golf, football, Rugby too.

There's idiots here on FT but posters on BBC comments are another level of stupid.

Not just on sport, mate.

Some of the comments on science related articles make me doubt both my own sanity and democratic systems for policymaking on that topic.

To a degree. Unfortunately we rarely win Test match series away in India, Australia or West Indies & just lost in Pakistan..

England need to start doing a bit better abroad, hopefully winning this series in NZ kickstarts something.

For me, we have a bit of an obsession with The Ashes,  especially away from home, where we generally get humiliated. We should go all out to beat other sides too.

Tbf Oz, India or any side other than the Saffers playing more than a two match series haven't won in England for over 20 years either, and barring Indias remarkable run last time down under home form terms to run supreme when one of the big 3 turn out.

I agree that away series wins in the most difficult places would make this England team memorable among the very best, but those things are rather rare beasts.

Odd decision to declare, with the best part of 3 days to go, Stokes could have used the batting practice and it was a opportunity it get even more overs in the the Kiwis legs.

Great win. Think Pope down the order has to become a permanent thing if he's staying on the side.

So encouraging to see the bowling unit do so well, just hope the quick-heavy Lions training camp can help boost our options for 2025 too.

If we can get Wood & Archer fit for next winter we will have a serious pace attack,, along with Carse & Atkinson ,to take on the Aussies.

Archer is a write off mate, don't hold out any hope on that. On my knees for Wood to be available for ashes though
