So an Australian, Marcus North, will be in charge of English selections. He has been around the county game for a bit to be fair but with him being Durham it just seems like Stokes as had a big say in it. Probably improves Emilio Gay's chances though.

3 Centuries in 5 matches probably helped more

A few new faces in the squad for the first test against New Zealand

A few new call ups and an old face returns then.

Hopefully they all get a chance and do well.

I'd have waited until after the first lions games before naming the squad.

I did think Crawley will score runs in the Championship and make it a decision for them but he's made himself unselectable, even for this England set up. Gay deserves a shot and Rew will probably be back up middle order batsmen.

With Bashir getting picked as well, Rehan really is going to be carrying drinks rather than playing for us isn't he?

Will Bashir  play?

I guess he is young enough to improve and knows the squad culture well but yes wonder how he feels after basically being dumped for the Ashes - or maybe glad he didn't have to suffer!?

Not too many surprises in this squad, I imagine Gay will get the nod to open and Rew is there any case of any injuries in the batting line up or Smith continues his Ashes form with the bat or behind the stumps.

Hopefully Robinson is fit and learned from previous call ups, he's got a cracking average and just takes wickets, would expect him to line up with Atkinson and Tongue in the seam department.

Biggest question is who the other bowler is, could even go all seam. Think I'd go Ahmed over Bashir if they do want a spinner but think Crane is slightly unfortunate to miss out given his recent form.

Definitely for the best as it would have destroyed his career.

Derbyshire have put their faith in him and he's not really let them down so far, goes at less than 3 an over and has as many wickets for them as he did in three years with Somerset!

Crawley has never scored runs in the Championship, that was never going to change

Happy and surprised with a few changes. Was hoping to Sibley given another shot but not surprised he's been ignored

Agreed. Thought he'd done enough maybe that'll change with North coming in.

The Baker selection is wild given his economy in FC is 4 per over, thought Bamber would be a better selection.

This is pretty interesting, Gough talking about going for the selectors role

Having listened to the whole podcast I can see why he didn't get it. Gives me bitter man at the pub vibes. Agreed with some of his opinions but also lots of contradictions in there.

Sibley cannot play cricket the way McCullum and Stokes want it to be played.

Yeah I didn't agree with his point around North taking it away from 'getting closer to county cricket' when he's been working at Durham.

Interesting his theoretical selection was pretty similar to what it is, knew Vaughan would kick back on Rehan

Yeah I thought he was a bit disrespectful to North and Finn. I thought he made some decent points on county cricket in regard to journeymen cricketers blocking the path for youngsters to get opportunities and county coaches going for the experience rather than risking youth.

Quite a few of the pundits seem to not rate Rehan - listen to this and the sky cricket podcast most weeks and neither of them seem to rate him.

I think England will reign in the Bazball ethos again. It was never a long term fix.

They were talking about Bashir and Rehan on the Talksport Following on Podcast, again they weren't massively keen on Rehan as a bowler and first spin option, but seemed to think he'd be a potential long term option to do what Stokes does.

The thing with spinners is they’re generally supposed to hold an end up, Bashir gets absolutely spanked around the ground and only seems to take wickets when the batters are going absolutely gung ho. Ahmed has the ability to change things up in an over with his variations as well as being able to bat.

In fairness to Bashir, he's been holding up an end since moving to Derbyshire. Hope it translates for England as they clearly still fancy him.

Yeah I hope so too because like you say they seriously like him. My only concern would be that’s it’s division 2.

The whole podcast is bitter men in a pub. Why's he digging out Steven Finn. Bloke is a tosser, and so is Vaughan.

So sad seeing loads of empty seats for the London derby at Lord's.

The ECB throwing this tournament under the bus like this is disgusting.

Looked a good crowd at Kent today.

Pointless half time show (as good as it looks) in what is essentially a quarter final IPL game.

God knows what it'll be like for the final...
