We dont seem to have a thread for general PC stuff!

Managed to get a Gigabyte 3070 at RRP from Currys, so I'm selling my 5700xt on Ebay. Bidding is already above what I paid for it new in early 2020, that's not even counting the 3 free games I got with it! Weird time to buy components.

What rigs you all running and what games are you playing? Currently enjoying cyberpunk and the new Path Of Exile league.

I actually had my new PC delivered today! Had previously been using a laptop which I bought 7 years ago for Uni but finally decided it was time to get myself a desktop

Went for just a pretty basic system for now but I am very much looking forward to upgrading it myself

i7-9700F, AMD RX 5600 XT, 16GB DDR4 3200 memory, 1TB M.2 SSD

I was mostly playing Football Manager but I was still managing to play games like CS:GO, PUBG etc.

Just started downloading Battlefront 2 as it is free on Epic, but definitely going to look at getting Cyberpunk as well (although I have already played through it once on PS5)

Got an Acer Nitro 5 as I don't really have the space for a gaming PC. Will purchase one once I move out though, mostly for modding games which vastly changes the playing experience IMO.

Don't really play a lot of games tbh, the odd FM Touch career, Skyrim, Old School Runescape and then random ones like Euro Truck Simulator 2 or House Flipper.

Custom build I7 8700k, 16gb 3200mhz Trident z RAM sticks, EVGA GTX1080FE, Asus Z370G Motherboard, 5 x Corsair LL140 fans, NZXT dual fan CPU cooler, 2 x M2 1TB SSD sticks all in the Phanteks Enthoo Evolv mATX tempered glass case. I run 2 x Dell S2716DG 144hz 1440p monitors, I'm a bit of a keyboard enthusiast and use the Ducky One2 Mini 60% keyboard and finally my mouse is a Logitech G502 lightspeed. Rode Microphone and Sennheiser HD6XX imported headphones.

I'll try and get pics later, but was thinking of upgrading the lot in a year or so as I want a new GPU.

Regularly play Destiny 2 with a clan, but I have 100s of games and really play what I feel like... recently been RDR2

Nice. I've got an Acer Predator Helios 300 at the moment, it's my third gaming laptop after an Alienware and an MSI and it's definitely my favourite of the three so far. I really like it to be honest.

Here's a picture of it when I just added Corsair fans to it. I've linked up all the colours so they match now 🤣

GPU: Palit 3080

CPU: 10700k (did get a 5950x but that's in my workstation PC which is hopeless for gaming but I did try it out)

Mobo: ASUS Rog Maximum Formula

Case: Lian Li 011 Dynamic

RAM: 2 x 16gb Corsair Vengeance

PSU (if anyone cares): Corsair ax1200i (I did have a dual GPU (1080s) watercooled PC which needed a hell of a lot of juice, since retired)

Monitors: ASUS ROG PG279Q for gaming and a Dell Ultrasharp 32" UP3216Q for other stuff

Storage: Some M.2 I can't remember what, Samsung Evo

Weirdly, decided to replay Diablo 2 to try the Project Diablo mod which is good.  Fall back games are Rocket League and Destiny 2 but will always dabble in the new released.  Finished Cyberpunk and not really got my teeth into anything lately.

My build's about a year and a half old now I think.  Some of you might need to sit down and grab a hold of something firm before they read the next bit.

I bought a pre-built PC with a locked intel CPU cooled by a 'custom' 240mm AIO.  One of Scan's 3XS systems:

Gpu: Asus 2060s

Cpu:  Intel I7-9700F @ 3.0GHz (Intel speed boost up to 4.5GHz)

Mobo: Asus ROG Strix B360-H

Ram: 2x8GB DDR4 @ 1330MHz, unsure of manufacturer I might check next time I turn it off.

Storage: 1TB Intel M.2 NVMe drive

Case: I don't remember but it holds the components together in one place admirably and it lets me look at the pretty lights inside.

Monitor (bought separately): MSI Optix MAG 272C + a 5 years old Acer 27" 1080p 60hz.

Cyberpunk's the first game that I've played which really pushes the system at 1080p and that's only with ray tracing on so I'm thinking this rig's good for a decent few years yet.  My future priorities are upgrading the RAM and getting more storage, then getting a 1440p monitor to unleash its full potential.

LOL, I tend to spend big every 6-7 years to spare myself the hassle of constantly upgrading. If any I'd upgrade the GPU in 2-3 years. Wanted to get a 5900X but the insane prices of the new RTX made a hole in that budget and the 5600X is by itself quite capable whilst having a very low TDP.

Your rig ain't bad at all and you'll be fine for a long time at 1080p and have more than a fair shot at long-term 1440p. 1330MHz seems awfully low for DDR-4 memory, you sure about the frequency?

Dual channel though, so effectively 2660hz if I'm understanding how ram works.

i5-4460 + GTX 1070 + 16 GB DDR3, pauper compared to most in here lol Went through a period of playing hardly any new games from 2010ish onwards so it does me just fine while I catch up on all the stuff I've missed. It manages 1440p 60+ fps on everything I've tried so far, so not feeling the itch to upgrade just yet. Next up is DOOM Eternal.

This is ridiculous now, bidding on my 5700xt is almost £500 with ages to go. People have gone nuts.

You can get a 3060ti for less if you have a little patience and use a stock alert Twitter account.

That's absolutely bonkers?

I have a 3070 which is great, but I get the occasional MOBO reported error on start up of GPU issue. Personally wonder if the 550w power supply is man enough for the job.

Yeah I don't understand who on earth wants to pay 500 or more for a 5700xt but there you go.

Maybe it is the issue, Nvidia recommend at least 650w for that card I think. I'm on 850.

PC Specialist spec; so I sort of assumed it'd be fine, but can I be arsed with replacing the PSU currently (No?)

Its all very neatly and tightly tucked in to a very small spot as well so its a bit of a chore.

Yeah they've screwed you over a bit there and skimped on the psu. I would change it at your earliest convenience because a bad psu can ruin the computer.

I would complain actually!

Annoys me because going from a 550 to a 750 or whatever isnt a big cost... such a waste to have to re-buy.

Ah well.

Might complain.

To be fair, I should have checked this prior to ordering; I saw 'PC Specialist' and was re-assured.

No this isn't on you whatsoever. They are a well known company, and you pay the premium price of a pre-built so you don't have to worry about things like this!

Having checked now - I bought it from Currys - and here is the spec - which omits to mention PSU...

https://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/gaming/pc-gaming/gaming-pcs/pc-specialist-vortex-st-s-gaming-pc-intel-core-i7-rtx-3070-2-tb-hdd-512-gb-ssd-10215405-pdt.html?awc=1599_1605782528_0a61590f1979b4017ba96b836fb48ea4

And strangely when you find the closest model on PC specialist - they want to ship with a 450w PSU? Eh?

Pc specialist are a pretty poor company, I've had so many issues dealing with them myself.  I get the impression they're one of these overworked undertrained operations.

The odd thing is that the quality of the build and cable management is quite good and actually quality of the components used, I can't criticise.

My massive issue here is that the PSU wasn't specified on the listing (with Currys) and so I assumed (my mistake) it'd be us to the job, but its a Corsair CX 550.

Just a very odd build. Penny pinching on a key component.

They also picked a-non-generic cooler fan which sits on the processor (which seems overkill for a non-K chip...) which makes access to the 4th RAM slot problematic; I mean, not impossible, but just poorly planned.

I just feel a bit miffed. I can change the PSU. I know how to and its not going to cost me the earth; but I shouldn't have to.
