I’m not going to get carried away as that Sheffield United side was potentially the worst we’ve played since we came back up.

They flashed up a stat for our home win percentage being the worst in the league during today’s game. After the Man City and West Ham games are out of the way we have a run of four winnable fixtures with three being at home (West Brom, Crystal Palace and Newcastle).

That’s what will make or break us and that’s when we’ll see if the lesson has been learned from the West Ham, Fulham and Aston Villa games earlier this season, let alone anything from last season.

I think you could see the players benefiting from more than a weeks rest and the energy and intensity we played at as a result was clear to see for the entire 90 mins. Sheff utd were poor but pretty much everyone turned up for us today.

Absolutely

the extra rest I feel will determine the remainder of our season, and we will be glad of being knocked out of Europe when we celebrate getting into the CL.

Reminds me of our collapse at the end of the 12-13 season where we were looking certain for automatic promotion but collapsed and barely made the play-offs.

But our players all learnt from the experience, grew from it and we walked the Championship the following year.

Sometimes these things are a blessing in disguise. Let's hope it's that way this time.

100% this.

I think I posted after the Bournemouth game and after our collapse from the top 4 that hopefully we'd use it as a learning curve just like we did in the 12/13 season, and it looks like we are thankfully.

This team looks a lot stronger mentally than we've previously been and they've come a long way, especially with all the injuries we've had.

Experience is key in this situation.

That and not having a 3 month enforced pandemic circuit break in the season...mainly that.

-ed as a general suffix for past tense things of happening, (unless there are two representations for the basic and participle - (e.g. went/gone)) - has to be considered a valid rule for the English language IN GENERAL, and should never be considered 'wrong' in any way if used in such an appropriate manner.  It's merely a valid difference is style, along with any and all other such differences in representation.

Learnt is an irregular verb in British English. As with "made" and not "maked". Irregular verbs are an fundamental part of all natural languages. The Americans decided to use "learned" to differentiate themselves from British speakers. If you want to use "learned" that's fine. But it's not British.

Regular/irregular doesn't matter precisely because it's a matter of communication that's always more subjective than the basic rules of language itself.  Any rules of communication that follow such rules of language have to be considered valid regardless of any other opinions, because that's exactly what the underlying rules of language are truly there for - just because it's not liked, or considered informal means nothing for definition, only individual subjective application and use.

The problems really stem from our not understanding language in the first place, since it is distinct from such matters of communication anyway - which is precisely WHY additional rules of communication based upon rules of language are either accepted or ignored entirely - trying to do both, as at present, doesn't work.

EDIT: Note: A friend of mine is working on why we don't understand language properly, and has since figured out why...  (He's just in the process of writing it up atm - some of which he's shared with me for proof-reading.)

If I'm being 'really' harsh, we could still blow it, so it's probably a bit too early to say we're over it all yet HOWEVER I have more confidence this time around. You could sense it was going wrong last season. I don't feel like it is this time. I feel like we've done it in tougher circumstances this time.
