Shinji really is the most underrated Leicester player of all time. I know it's a question of best 11, but he's hardly even had a mention so far.

No doubt in my mind we wouldn't have won the league without him.

So to put into context, this team is picked from players that have played for us and are at their peak for us.

Schmeichel

Ricardo

Evans - Fofana Not yet at his peak yet but I imagine he'll go down as one of the best to have played for us.

Soyuncu

Fuchs (as well as Justin has done, I prefer the balance of a left footed player)

Tielemans

Kante

Mahrez

Maddison - Kramaric is a close call as well, I'd love to see him as part of this front 4.

Barnes

Vardy

Kasper

Ricardo

Morgan

Fofana

Fuchs

Mahrez

Kante

Tielemans

Barnes

Okazaki

Vardy

Notes:

Probably choose Huth&Morgan or Evans&Fofana in real life, because partnerships mean a lot, but I can’t leave Fofana out-the guy is sensational.

Ndidi is better than Kante is now, but no one has ever been better than Kante 15/16. Wilf is the first name on the team sheet now though.

Okazaki was a crucial cog in bringing in the wingers. Harsh on Maddison, but he doesn’t work so well with Youri...

I've gone for a best XI since promotion of players that are no longer on the books:

Hamer

Simpson

Schlupp

Wasilewski

Huth

Cambiasso

Kante

Gray

Okazaki

Ulloa

Mahrez

That's a pretty weak team compared to our current team and goes to show how far we've come.  Only Mahrez would start today from this lot, Ndidi keeps Kante out.

So little love for Maguire in this thread...

- One of the biggest stars of England's 2018 World Cup run to the semi-finals (other than Gordon Banks, probably the most impressive performance by a Leicester player at an International tournament)

- Performances for us (as well as England) earned us a World record transfer fee for a defender

- Currently captain of one of the biggest sides in the World

and he doesn't even get into this line-up ahead of Wasilewski!

Manchester United fans say the same thing after Harry Maguire is sent off for England - Manchester Evening News

Joking aside, I get that he fell between the Premier League winners & what the current team is achieving, and I'm not saying I'd necessarily put him in ahead of the other Centre Backs: just that there feels like a bit of revisionist history around him, with people liking to have a pop, and he only gets a couple of mentions in passing. As good as the current side is, he is in a side above us in the table, and in terms of the most tangible measure of "best" - transfer value - £80m would make him the first name on this team sheet!

Tielemans is good enough to be at a championship and Champions League winning club, quite frankly.

I'm a big fan of Cambiasso and, like you I think, probably of the generation to have actually watched him the most during his prime.

He was undeniably fantastic but he was also characterised by his graft as a hard working, box to box midfielder. As classy as he was on the ball, he never had the consistent vision or passing range that YT has. Which isn't an insult because most people don't.

I think we have a real habit on here at times of underestimating our own players. We've spent so many decades watching complete dross but the transition to actually having world class talent here over the last few years has been gradual enough that I think some of us have managed to internally normalise it. Even on here the myth that Vardy can only play counter attacking football and that he's one dimensional gets repeated, Mahrez was never fully admired by all corners amongst Leicester fans and I think there's an extent that YT is prone to the same oversight sometimes.

There are things he can do with a football that very few other players in the whole world can on anything like a regular basis. The pass he put in for Castagne against WBA was absolutely insane but its become so regular with him that most people were just distracted by the fact Vardy had finally scored.

Don't take it as a slight against Cuchu, it really wasn't meant as such at all. I just think Tielemans is one of the top fraction of a percent midfielders of his generation and will probably wind up being another of those that doesn't get the full respect he deserves until he moves on.

I half agree - because of our recent success I think we underestimate former players. I don't want to go down the American route of endlessly comparing players by wins and trophies, but Cambiasso played ten seasons at the heart of Inter's most successful ever (? I'm not an expert on Italian football history) side. As others have pointed out about the 15/16 side, what is a better measure of greatness than consistent performances at the highest level?

Tielemans is clearly outrageously gifted in terms of technique and vision, but he was a relative disappointment last year. This year he's been playing alongside a genuinely world-class defensive midfielder. Cambiasso never had a settled midfield partner (he dragged us back into the game against Man United alongside Hammond, I recall) and was playing in a team playing a style of football and losing every week that he probably wasn't accustomed to.

As you point out they're different players, I just don't think you can say that Tielemans is definitely there yet. But as a Leicester fan it's quite absurd that we find ourselves having these debates.

With him and Kante it was like having 13 players on the pitch.

To be honest, I just forgot about Maguire and yes, I agree he deserves a place in that team.  I also forgot about Chilwell and put Schlupp in ahead of him.  It was late when I wrote that.  THat's my excuse anyway.
