I've gone for a best XI since promotion of players that are no longer on the books:

Hamer

Simpson

Schlupp

Wasilewski

Huth

Cambiasso

Kante

Gray

Okazaki

Ulloa

Mahrez

That's a pretty weak team compared to our current team and goes to show how far we've come.  Only Mahrez would start today from this lot, Ndidi keeps Kante out.

Kasper

Justin

Huth

Fofana

Fuchs

Ndidi

Mahrez

Tielemans

Kante

Vardy

I am really struggling with the last one.  Ulloa, or Okizaki, Simpson I want to put in as well, crap thread. :(

Not many more effective players for us since promotion than Okazaki and Simpson.

I don’t think Fuchs is a good example - he was always excellent technically, but was also an excellent defender! 15/16 Fuchs was the best LB I’ve ever seen at City.

Love Castagne but there’s no way he’s above Fuchs when it comes to technical ability. I can’t believe anyone can forget some of the absolutely audacious plays Fuchs has made.

Not based on what they did for us but based on the ceiling of their ability. These are arguably all world class.

Best team tbh. The front 4 would score 60-65 goals between themselves.  Obviously guys like Huth are legends but can you imagine Huth and Morgan pushed up to the halfway line playing one-twos with our CMs. They'd be exposed worse than COVID exposed senior citizens

Our curtent squad + Kante and Mahrez would be serious title challengers. Actual proper challengers.

To leave Ndidi out is criminal but for me Kante is the GOAT in his position. X

Also, anyone who puts Morgan ahead of Huth is straight trippin’, boo.

Premier League winning captain has to be on the XI any way you look at it.

We are lucky enough to have had 6 outstanding international quality centre backs since promotion, but, if you’re doing a best 11 since then, you cannot leave out the skipper who lifted the trophy.

Zieler was just ... the worst. And he has probably played more PL games than any of the other backups since promotion. Which is why I don't care about paying 12 m for a benchwarmer.

I think this shows the wings and number 10 have been the only area of “weakness” for us. Lots of arguments about most the other positions. Kante/Ndidi/Tielemans/Cambiasso are undoubtedly 4 of the best players we have ever had. It’s just hard to get them all into one team. Mahrez of course is nailed on but other than him the wide positions are hard. Also Maddison..... I put him my team but thinking about it I’d probably rather go for Okazaki. We’ve not had a genuine storming “number 10” since promotion really. Is Okazaki better than Maddison? Probably not. Was he more effective for us? Hard to argue that he wasn’t.
