I hadn't been a member on here for long when his tragic accident took place. I do remember he was very popular on here though. There were quite a few on here who knew him. I'm sure they've got tales to tell.

Hi there and welcome to the forum.

I didn't know your Dad outside of this forum but I do remember him on here being a very popular and funny character who was pretty much universally well liked (a significant achievement in a place like this!!). The news of his death was a real shock to this community.

There are certainly others who may not post as regularly nowadays but am sure will see your post and will be able to share some more personal stories.

Hi everyone,

Ive recently stumbled across this page finding that Janx, was a great character back in 2007 at the Leicester games. He sadly died on 26th January 2007, and I was overwhelmed reading the kind messages our family received after this tragic news was brought to us. As you may be able to see by my display name, I am his son. Now 18, I was wondering if anyone on here remembers him, and has any stories they remember of him at the football? Id love to know if anyone has any stories of my dad or any fond memories of him. Please try share this message as I know there are a few members here who may remember my dad. Thank you all

I didn't know him but rememeber reading about him.

But just wanted to say - that must have been really tough for you mate. I guess you'd have been four years old or something?  I hope you can get some good memories and stories about you dad from the people here who did know him

Take care bud, and peace to you and your family

I knew Janx reasonably well and watched many matches with him. A lovely, generous and positive man with plenty of chutzpah and wit.

Hey there, a lot of the users that were closer to your dad have naturally drifted away from the site as they've gotten older and matured a bit. They don't seem to want to argue with us idiots on the Internet anymore!

I'm not quite sure if this is appropriate or not, if I'm honest, so I'm sorry if this is in bad taste - but if you're interested and if you've not seen them before, there are a couple of threads still in the archive from after the accident. They're full of some quite heartfelt tributes.

I can chuck up the links if you want.

Sounds like he was fairly well liked! Thanks so much for the help i really appreciate it

You even get a mention in that thread mate! I actually remember Janx being extremely proud of his family and someone who was an absolute pleasure to spend time with at the football (and the football was often fairly rotten in those days).

Hope you're doing well mate and that your mum is well?

I don’t think he would believe if you’d have told him back then we would win the premier league a decade later! All going well these days thanks, she’s doing well and i’ve recently moved to Leicester for uni, think my decision was slightly influenced by living near the club i’ve supported all my life!

I did exactly the same thing mate; studied history (occasionally), drank (frequently) and followed Leicester all over the place.

All came up roses as I now work in a soulless and completely unconnected profession.

Try a day out at Grace Road if you get a chance with them letting people in and you've not buggered off home for the summer. That can also be a top day out.

Assume its no longer all about Creation, Zanzibar, Po Na Na, The Loaded Dog, Varsity at just about any time but specifically Creation/Zanzibar Monday, Fan Club Tuesday, Reagans on a Wednesday, Shampoo on a Thursday (unlimited booze for a fiver) after karaoke in the bar upstairs (one of our regulars here was the DJ and I ran in to him at my cousin's wedding recently), Madferit / Brighton Beach on a Friday, football on Saturday (we used to play on Saturday at 3pm in the olden days), and anywhere with big screens Sunday for the matches on Sky. I think we even changed it up and went to the Polar Bear, Jongleurs, that place that did great real ales and pizzas (I want to call it Taps, but it definitely wasn't that), and the casino from time to time, just to change it up.

I can't even remember some of the old football haunts Neil and I would have drunk in; but definitely would have included the Swan and Rushes, the Counting House and that terrible Wetherspoons on the high street which was shocking, but cheap and near the casino

Sounds pretty similar to the student life these days! If only it was that easy to get to a game these days, impossible for me when I haven’t been able to get a season ticket due to being too young, and now they obviously sell out all the time! Need to try find some place to watch in town that shows the games!

Of course we remember Janx. He’s fondly remembered on here.

I’m really glad to see that so many people remember him.

Yeah it was very easy in my day and quite a few students who supported other clubs ended up with Season Tickets as well; never a problem getting them. I even remember it being fairly easy to get to most aways; but I may have been relying on others to get my tickets; I can't remember!

Good to hear from you anyway mate; as Bert said, your Dad was very well liked amongst loads of us and many of us still post here or check in from time to time. I probably have some photos of some of our antics somewhere (actually probably not since I'm terrible at backup) but who knows what facebook might have? In fact, facebook was maybe a bit too late for most of it. Maybe a good thing!

Enjoy your studies mate and make sure you get to a game when given half a chance!

@JanxJR Hello chap.

I joined foxestalk in 20007 just a couple of months after his tragic accident.  I can assure you that even months after people were talking about how gutted they were. Throughout the following years he was often fondly remembered not just on the yearly ‘anniversary’ threads remembering him on the dreaded day of the accident, but at random times too.

he was definitely a very well liked member of Foxestalk.
