Since when did @Webbo become all high and mighty?? Lol.

The guy was a top class pr1ck.

Cantona is a legend.

Great kick.

Wish Cantona was around nowadays in this stale PR media driven sports "personalities" we have nowadays!

I worry about some people on here, they watch films like The Purge and think it's a good idea.

If you think you can take the law into your own hands but nobody will ever take the law into their hands against you you're a fool.

Where is the line drawn?

Was it ok for people to tell parents of school shooting victims, that they were participating in a lie?  What about the ones who did it outside the funerals?

Kids used to be told to stand up for themselves.  Some did, some didn’t.

Now they are told to suppress it and forget it.  It’s not forgotten.  It festers and boils, until it explodes.  Shootings, stabbings, abuse, suicide.  These people hit a point where they feel no other way out.

In your perfect world, there are no antagonists.

In the real world, they are out there using their perceived immunity to find new ways to bully others.

School shootings, where weirdos decide to kill people who they have decided have slighted them. Is that acceptable? Maybe if they'd just beaten them up? I mean they'd be as qualified as you to decide whether they deserved it?

Hang on...weve gone from Eric Cantinas king fu kick on a man who said "**** off back to France you French mother****er” to mass school shootings????

You've  really lost the plot here mate!!!

Now you’ve decided to twist what I said in the hopes of proving you are right.  Sorry, doesn’t work that way.

How many people would still be quick to berate/insult others, if there was a consequence?

Currently there is not one, and therefore it doesn’t stop.  In fact, more and more people do it.

In your perfect world, how do you get it to stop?

If every time you stepped outside, I was there to follow you around and repeatedly yell offensive things.  How would you get me to stop?

I’m starting to see why he is against people getting punched in the mouth for being abusive.

You've never abused a footballer at a match? If kicking people is okay for that there are some on here who'd better hope Perez doesn't read his thread.

Once again, you miss the point.

I have never abused an athlete at a sporting event.  It’s not me.  I’m quiet and not the type to draw attention to myself.

Just like I’m not the type to bully, or act like an ass online simply because I’m anonymous.

Now, please answer my question - what would you do?

My favourite moment in football ever (non-City). I'm surprised to see him get so much support on here, I thought the Puritans would be out in force. It got him eight months out of the game, which I suppose would irk me if he happened to play for City, but he doesn't so that was fine. As a player he had me in awe both for Leeds and Man Utd.

Mind you, I also liked Nigel Pearson's FOAD moment. It's good for supporters to get a bit back. I know there are logical arguments to show why this should not take place, but I love it anyway.

I remember Gary Abbott scoring his third goal from the penalty spot for Welling and making a wan ker signal to his own fans. Fair enough, most of them were wan kers anyway.

You're not the sort of person to call people names but you have no problem (theoretically) hitting them?

Answer my point, what if the person berating you was much bigger than you, would it suddenly become morally acceptable? Say you hit them and they hit back and won the fight, does that mean they've won the argument?

To answer your question if someone called me a wnker I'd call them a twt. I wouldn't dream of starting a punch up.

I wish I could say I was surprised that defending the rule of law made me the bad guy, but its so typical of this place.

I was at university when this happened. A few days after the incident one of the tabloids published an interview with Simmons in which he claimed that all he'd said was, "It's an early bath for you, Cantona!" I have a clear memory of me and my flatmates pissing ourselves laughing over that.

It was one of those stories that the media feel compelled to treat with a tone of moral indignation but everybody else finds hilarious, like when there's a mass brawl between players at a game and the commentator sniffily declares, "Nobody wants to see this."

Correct - I believe there is a line, and if crossed, I would have no problem dealing with them.

You apparently have no line, which makes me wonder if you would be considered a “bully”.  Not saying you are, just wondering.

Sometimes deterrents are needed.  Like a lot of bleeding hearts, you want peace, love and understanding.  When asked how you would deal with those that oppose it, you have no answer.

You want/expect/believe everyone has the same beliefs as you.  When they don’t, you fall back on “walk away or turn the other cheek”.  Sometimes that is not possible.

Sometimes you have to let people know - if you say or do this, it will result in this.

You're the one one who thinks you're entitled to  hit people.

No different than you thinking your entitled to say whatever you want to me.

Consequences my friend.
Touch the hot stove, get burned, never touch the hot stove again.  Lesson learned.

It's certainly taught me a lesson trying to talk to you, I won't bother in future.

Problem is, you weren’t trying to talk to me.

You explained nothing.  Avoided questions, and tried twisting my words to suit your needs.

You’d make a decent politician.

Rise above? He did well to get his feet that high. ..

I didn't know Cantona was a Scot either. You do learn something every day, apparently ;)

Webbo being the voice of reason in here.

"But the fan was abusing him".  So what?  2 wrongs don't make a right.  Fans shouldn't be allowed to get away with racially abusing players and that's why I'm fully on board with the campaigns to get these pond life out of our game, but nobody should be physically assaulting someone either.  Keyboard warrior mentality is on proud display in here.

Nothing compares to Cloughie slapping his own fans around. 😂

Got to disagree.

It’s easy to say it’s not the right thing to do, but there are instances in which I think the footballer could’ve been excused if they lashed out in a rage. Commendably they don’t in the main, but it feels like a lack of justice.

I saw a video of Scott Brown stepping off the team bus and a Rangers fan makes a joke about his deceased sister. I’m no fan of Brown, but the look on his face is heartbreaking. So powerless to such a vile and unnecessary remark.

I wanted Brown to take his jaw off but he carries on into the stadium, visibly upset.
