Buying online help

Hi all, m

Recently purchased a coat online, long story short it didn't fit and I had to send it back. The company I purchased from has given me a credit note/voucher rather than my actual cash back. 

 

1. Can they do this?

2. Could i ask for my money back so I can actually go out and try something on before purchase? 😂😅

I think the rules regarding buying online are different to in a shop and you don’t quite have the same rights. I can be worth checking before purchasing, or use big stores or brands that have physical shops as I think these are more more likely to to follow shop bought rules.

depends on how long it was between you receiving it and returning it. some companies will do 14 days for cash return and up to 28 days you receive a credit

where is the ‘ shop’ that you purchased it from? Is it based on England?  Wonder if wherever the shop is will determine the trading laws

Normally within 30 days YOU decide what you get as long as the item is given back as fit for purpose.(ie still as new)

Over 30 days the company decides what they give you( refund/ credit/ refund)?

This is a thing that irritates me. Some shops/retail demand it be returned with it's "original packaging intact". I've bought stuff that's in a hard plastic package where the only way to open it is to cut it apart. How does that work, then?

Think as long at the "item"is fit for use, you cant necessarily keep all the packaging. I never do!.

Worst case scenario if you pay by card you can open a chargeback or section 75( I think it's called that) to reclaim your money from your credit card provider.

ALWAYS pay by credit card IF you pay off in full every month!

I always use Zilch for online purchases.

 

It's one of those things like Klarna that splits payments, interest free over a month or so. 

 

If I'm satisfied with the goods, I clear it off immediately, if I want a refund, they have to give it you back on Zilch.

 

I believe Clearpay and Klarna are the same, but they have limited shops you can use, where as you pay anywhere with Zilch

No they can’t do refuse a cash refund (assuming the coat wasn’t made to order in any way). You’re protected by distance selling laws and have 14 days to notify the company you want to return, and a further 14 to get it back to them.

 

Just contact them and ask for a refund. A credit note is a ‘reverse’ invoice and a document that says the company owes money to someone. Initiating a chargeback through your card provider is the last resort.

Consumer Rights Act is your legislation. Provided that you’re within the 14 day period, you can “cancel” and return your goods. 
 

A lot of online retailers are not up to speed with the legislation. 
 

The only exemption which might apply here is if the clothing was tailor made. If it is, Let me know.

The shop was Casual Basement. 

 

 

Nothing tailor made either. So there is a possibility i can get my monies back? 😀

How did you pay mate? If on credit card you could ask for a charge back potentially.

The distance selling regulations offer far better consumer protection that buying from a shop although a seen infront of other customers often has the desired result. The right of return of non faulty goods on the high st = nil online 14 no reason needed though you could be reponible for shipping..
