Orange...

Für whole Blind have been caught ball watching...Include also Barnes ,Tielemans,Nididi,Soumare

then also Jogging ..back Leaving Thomas/Castagna both open...

In our performances, again Thomas is the last to be criticised.....

Exactly, people need to look back at their goals and ask themselves if they were Thomas who would they have gone to when he has a player in front of him and a player behind him and no one coming across

I just had a thought, we are as bad at attacking set pieces as we are at defending set pieces. Now imagine on the training ground, our best headers of the ball are defenders or defensive midfielders, Evans, Ndidi and possibly Amartey. Now if they are doing a training ground routine, Evans, Amartey, Cags, Ndidi have got to be the ones training for the defensive side of set pieces, so the players we have left (except possibly Daka) are not amazing at heading the ball so there is not much in the way of a "real life" scenario facing the players they face on match day in the premier league. So on the training ground they must be thinking - "actually we are decent at set pieces" as nothing gets past them (mainly due to our lack of offensive set piece players).

That coupled with Kaspers reluctance to ever move from his line is a recipe for disaster, honestly I think the defensive frailties have been there for a while, we just had Ndidi mopping things up pretty well himself when he was on form. Now his form has dropped our frailties have been exposed. We need a few more aggressive players in our back line, both Timmy and Thomas (dare I say anything about the later! ) are far too passive in defending that back line during set pieces and Cags and Evans are at sixes and sevens not knowing who's around them. The blockers also need to be switched on and they are failing every time to see the runs, any player who has a run on a static defender will always have a better chance of getting his head on the ball over the static defender.

Kasper needs dropping in my view. A keeper should command  his area, he doesn't. Sentimentality needs to go.

Söyüncü simply not good enough for a while now, big Dan was much more solid. I actually think a dfence with Big Dan and Evans would stand more chance of a clean sheet.

I see your point but none of the top teams use man marking. Not one. They all use zonal marking so they can’t all be wrong. The problem lies with the personnel and not the tactic imo.

Its not as simple as saying all zonal's are equal to each other.

We have very expensive internationals manning our defense, the problem is the coaching.

Would this defensive weakness not happen if James Justin and Wesley Fofana were both playing?

Brilliant question. I would think things would be better.

Our defence wasn't and shouldn't be dependent on those two with the squad we have. Castagne, Evans, Soy and Thomas are good defenders individually and have been good in this team previously. If we were playing Amartay and Vestergaard in central defence every week then yeah fair enough but our defence should be better than it is currently. Why it's not better is bizarre.

Watched Fulham v Bournemouth, Friday night. Cahill and Steve Cook, CBs for Bournemouth would do a lot better than what we've got IMO. Could have bought them for next to nothing.

Let just forget the fact they are playing in the Championship for a start, I'm sure you can find some CBs playing well in every division in the country.

Doesn't mean they can solve our issues in the PL.

Despite set pieces being the main focus, we’ve only conceded one more goal from a set piece at this stage this season than at this stage last year but we’ve conspired to concede 8 more in total despite there being marginally less goals scored in total in the PL so far.

I don’t get why it’s gone so badly wrong with the general defensive play, we definitely do look ragged and therefore fore not defending as a team but I also wonder if it’s just that everyone has also sussed us out and we’re unable to deal with that. Whatever it is, Brendan said he needed to look at the structure after Palace and there’s been no improvement since so clearly he’s failed with that.

That's one cosy zone

At first glance it's hard to tell if we are the team with the corner or the team defending the corner!?

if that's the first goal then it worked cos jonny won the header  - what followed was simply dreadful ..... (as is the defensive line in that photo)

It was a terrible header though. lol

Aye, that's the Steve Cook who got relegated with Bournemouth and then failed to get promoted. And the Gary Cahill released by Palace. Come on perspective.

It's offside as shocking as the defending is. Thomas is actually supposed to be marking Mings but is blocked off as well.
