Edgar Davids:

The bespectacled Dutchman came so so close to strengthening Leicester's 2009/10 promotion push, the same time as when Lewandowski was rumoured to be signing and the prospect of Davids linking up with the Pole is something that all Leicester fans would have loved to witness. Having previously had a spell in England with Spurs, Davids was keen to get back into the Premier League. Leicester chairman Mandaric even said that his wage demands wouldn't be an issue but after some turgid negotiations, the deal was abandoned as Leicester perhaps underestimated what he would be demanding financially

David Beckham

Sven's Leicester master plan gets it's final outing with what would likely have been the highest profile signing in the club's history. This wasn't even a publicity stunt in order to gain the club more exposure in the Far Eastern market either; Leicester's Thai owners were more than willing to fund his £200,000 a week wages and if anyone could weave his magic it was Sven. He said himself that Beckham "never wanted to say no to me". Later, Beckham was offered a player-coach role with the club but it was wife Victoria who put the brakes on any move

It was Blackburn.

The move was called off when flights across Europe were cancelled due to that Icelandic volcano with an unpronounceable name.

Absolutely no chance we were linked, Blackburn were in the Premier League and we were shite.

I believe Brian Little turned down signing Davor Suker because he'd only seen videos of him.

You're correct. I knew it had something to do with Allardyce. I'd forgotten that he also managed Blackburn.

at one point in 2009 Leicester might have had the real thing as they sought promotion from the Championship. This all transpired the season before he moved to Borussia Dortmund as he became top scorer in the Polish league, helping Lech Poznan to take the title. Leicester scouts apparently travelled to watch Lewandowski play with the man himself keen on a move to an English club to further his career. This possible transfer was given extra traction when it was revealed that only the volcanic ash cloud prevented Lewandowski from travelling to watch a Blackburn game against Everton and further discussing the transfer. So Leicester's attempt to sign him were not just a pipe dream and had they perhaps secured promotion to the Premier League that season, the Pole might have not been able to resist.

Well, well, well. Wonder how long he would have stayed here? All sounds very plausible. English clubs seem to hesitate buying from the Polish league.

I remember seeing references to Lewandowski being linked with us whilst he was playing in Poland. Likewise, link with a young Gylfi Siggurdson

correct. We turned down the chance to sign him as an 18 year old for £1.2m.

Johan Cruyff is today set for a sensational move to First Division strugglers Leicester City. The Dutch Master has lined up a deal worth £4,000-a-game for 11 matches and, if everything works out, he will make his debut against reigning European champions Nottingham Forest on Saturday.

Last night jubilant Leicester boss Jock Wallace insisted: “Johan and I have already agreed terms. He has one or two problems to sort out, but I am very hopeful he will join us on Thursday. I would like to think that part of Johan’s interest is down to our personal friendship. I have known him since 1973 when he scored a fabulous goal for Ajax against Rangers when I was at Ibrox in the first European Super Cup. The negotiations have been going on by telephone over the past three to four weeks and now I think I have my man. He would teach my kids so much and be a great advert for Leicester City.

If he'd joined us he might have gone on to be manager.

Slightly different but I remember Andy Booth turning us down under Martin O'Neill and deciding to stay at Sheffield Wednesday.

I was absolutely gutted 😆. Everything had been agreed but he backed out last minute.

Similar to Craig Mackail-Smith.

Imagine if Cruyff had come and actually fallen in love with the club or something lol

It's sometimes nice to dream! Cruyff goes on a scouting mission to discover the next Weller, Wortho and goes on to recruit a young Xavi, Iniesto..

Thinking about "ones of our own" who we invested alot of time to develop and nurture through our system and then released from our youth setup.

We didnt offer Dion Dublin a professional contract after he came through our youth system for years.

Ivon Toney, who's was with us all through his youth and already been mentioned and of course Che Adams.

All went on to secure themselves at top flight football and played for or very close to International level.

You should have put his full name, Edgar Fookin Davids and my it was the most exciting rollercoaster of a thread ever to grace transfer talk.

Where we once linked with Lewandowski? Or have I completely made that up?
