The bridge to the stadium is famed for attacks on away fans.

If walking there cross the river nearer to the city. A few different bridge options along the way so you avoid the one near the stadium.

Reading the comments on here it's beginning to sound just like comments ré both Warsaw / Napoli about how dangerous it's going to be etc. If you are worried about going then don't go. Personally I found no problems in Warsaw or Napoli (apart from bus to stadium).

Saw more trouble in Eindhoven and that was nothing , think it pi55ing it down for 3 days in Naples possibly attributed to no trouble , Case of keep your wits about you and more often than not , if not looking for trouble you won't find any ,

You don’t want to go a bridge too far basically?

That bridge in question, I found a bit embarrassing, when I was there for a match as an away fan, the police spotted we weren't Italian  so escorted us over it which is actually a 2 minute walk, then just left us on the other side to walk to the stadium!

I’m not a scaremonger and I’ve been to Rome and really like it, always been v safe. But there’s a difference between visiting Rome as a tourist and being an English football fan whose team has just thrown the local club out of the cup being dumped en masse at 2am in the centre of town

Just wear a black puffer jacket and black baseball cap and we can all look like an Ultra no matter what team we support

This. My folks live in Italy and love Rome. Spend so much time there it probably would have been easier to move there. Not the 4 hours away they live. But there's a huge difference between being there on a normal weekend and being English and a football fan on the day an English club is in town. Definitely a place to have your wits about you when there's a game on.

You think that’s old?

Some on the England forum were giving advice based on 1997 😂😂😂

I went to that WC qualifier in Rome. Approx 8000 England fans there and almost drunk the place dry.

Police very heavy handed and randomly baton charging English fans when there was the slightest sign of any aggression.

Is anyone staying in or around the hotel zone(that's it's actual name)?

From what I saw last Thursday we have a minority of fans who go after trouble, some young and naive who'll quickly realise they've bitten off more than they can chew if it kicks off.

That said, I'm sure if you keep yourself to yourself it'll be fine.

I saw someone mention about going to the airport straight after the game to wait for an early flight. Just FYI if you're flying from Ciampino the website says this...

Maybe a different matter if you're going from FCO though as it's much bigger.

FCO might also be an issue. This site suggests that it could be closed for cleaning between midnight and 3:30am https://www.airportsdata.net/airport-FCO-accommodation/

We have just booked 2 nights in a fairly cheap hotel. Gives us somewhere to keep the bags safe and then get back and regroup, maybe even grab a few hours kip before getting a taxi to the airport at about 4:45
