After a major slump, I have finally started playing catch up for the Ashby 20

7 miles, slow as anything cos I am about a stone overweight from where I want to me and I feel incredibly tired today. But deep down chuffed.

Chug 10 miles out next weekend

Running really is a life changer isn’t it, once you properly get into it.

Yeah until you end up with Ronnie O'Sullivan esque obsession about performance and not working hard enough

Suggestions on relatively waterproof goretex road runners? Tried trail shoes and mixed but they are like running in football boots on anything but mud.

Picked up some Nike Vomero which felt great in the shop but on a road are a bit too hard.

I know some people say "just suck it up" with wet feet but I can't. Absolutely knackers my skin and I blister up easily.

You might struggle, have you considered Seal Skin socks? Might do the opposite if you get sweaty feet but the will keep the water out.

Week 3 of the block, so far so good. Finding the long runs extremely difficult to run at such a slow pace but know I must do if I want to limit any chance of my body falling apart as the mileage really ramps up in the coming weeks.

Missing blasting proper speed stuff but will incorporate some in when I can.

I often feel like shouting to people “I’m faster than this!!!, this is a slow paced run”

but I doubt they’d care 😂

Ive got an ITB issue, so seen a physio yesterday and I’ve had an ultrasound (I’m not pregnant 🎉) and been told to lower the mileage for a couple of weeks whilst doing a routine he’s suggested.

Gonna swim/cycle instead.

Not nice. I had this a few years ago. Get yourself some exercise bands and get on YouTube.

Did a 7 miler on the treadmill after a long day at work and not may calories. Not nice at all but got it done, and got my heart rate up towards the end. Why do we do it.

Hahahahaaa have to swallow our ego.

Oh no pal, stay patient. Still plenty of time to train, I had tendonitis back in late Nov/Dec and was stressing big time but managed it OK so far. You'll be fine, couple of weeks is usually all it takes.

Did this morning a HM in sub 89 mins, which I'm pretty delighted about considering the weather conditions and puddles or mud everywhere. It's 90 seconds off my PB which was set in an event, today was also no fueling during the run or drinks taken in. Day after leg day too, so all in all pretty pleased and hoping can shave more time off in an event.

I'm not sure how it's sustainable for a marathon at sub 3 hours though, I don't think I'd hack that 😂

Still hoping to do the Leicester 10k in a few weeks but still sort of waiting on the weather. Really aiming for comfortably sub 40 mins, as my top 10k times are all set in HMs atm.

At least it's warmer now to wear shorts again and not leggings, think psychologically that really helps too

There's a lot to digest here, but the overriding thing is - this is absolutely relentless.

True but Ronnie’s issues run a bit deeper than that don’t they haha, and it’s still better than coping with alcohol or drugs. I myself have been sober since Jan 1st and have been racking up the miles.

Worth watching his documentary on Amazon Prime. He's a massive runner himself. At one point, quicker enough at 10k to be the top 1,000 quickest people in the country.

I don't think it's just that @Heart-Shaped Fox deserves major credit for their progression, you can go back through the pages here to see how they've have just got better and better.

Incredible effort

Incredible effort. Well done mate.

Also worth noting that if I was posting 89min Half Marathons I'd be windmilling my tadger down Melton high street, so well done for staying humble  😂

I’m firmly in the all the gear no idea/spend a fortune on shit camp, but i clearly need to take recovery a bit more seriously with the volume and distance runs I’m doing nowadays so I’ve started looking at them leg compression things. Has anyone got any experience of using them? I’ve nearly died when I saw the ‘value’ option coming in at £300 so it’s probably unlikely I buy any but any suggestions are welcome.

Anyone done or planning to do the Leicestershire Half? Looks like there’s a fair amount of elevation. Will be my first half n all, so baptism of fire perhaps?

Did it last year. Thinking about it again for this year.
The start is a big down hill followed by a bit of undulation. Then in to a country park and fields. After that is not too bad. But around mile 7 or so there’s a big hill and then the last part is running back up the hill from the start. Which is a bit of a killer.

Another thing is that the parking around the place is pretty crap.
