Posh Women
Posh Women

Posh Women have completed the signing of former Leicester City forward Zaiga Lacite.

Peterborough United Women have bolstered their forward areas with the signing of former Leicester City forward Zaiga Lacite, who becomes the eleventh player to agree terms with the club for the upcoming campaign.

Lacite, who dropped down to Coalville Town Raventtes last season due to location, where she netted 15 goals in 15 appearances, becomes manager Dan Lawlor’s fifth signing of the summer and adds exciting competition in the forward areas.

The forward, who can operate as a number nine or behind the striker, spent the last two seasons in and out of The Foxes’ first team, initially making her competitive debut in 2019 against Manchester United in the FA Women’s Continental Tyres League Cup.

She recently received an international call-up to Latvian National Team for a training camp in May after some impressive performances at the back end of last season, and Lawlor is excited to have another top young talent in the squad.

Lawlor said: “Zaiga is an attacking midfield player that can also play as a nine. Her technical ability is off the scale, she’s excellent with the ball in tight spaces, has a great change of pace and offers us a lot of creativity. Another young, exciting talent who will add more depth to the squad and helps us reach our ambitions for the upcoming campaign.”

Lacite said: “I’m pleased to have signed for the club and excited for the new season. The professionalism of the club and how organised it is made me want to come here. They have only recently offered terms to players, so it’s a privilege that the club have shown faith in me by offering me terms for next season. I’m grateful for the trust shown in me by Dan and Bobby.

“These last few months have been quite whirlwind. Obviously signing for Posh, but also the honour of being called up to the Lataivan national team in May for a training camp was an unforgettable experience. It was difficult to leave Leicester City after some great memories, including making my debut against Manchester United a couple of years ago, but I believe the time was right to search for more first team minutes and I can’t wait to get started for the new season.”

Lacite joins former Leicester City player Tara Mae Kirk in signing for the club ahead of the 2022/23 campaign, with Eden Bailey, Kira Markwell and Jess Evans also arriving at Posh over the last few weeks ahead of preparations for the 2022/23 FA Women's National League campaign.

It’s a noun, not a pronoun. It’s the plural of woman.

Apropos of nothing, here are some more examples of nouns:

Twat

Idiot

Moron

Imbecile

Troll

Savage, but if it gets you through the day it's ok I understand.

Signed Josie Green the spurs midfielder. Decent signing with the WSL experience she'll bring.

(Can whoever does the women's recruitment take over for the men's team too so we can get some signings going )

Aileen Whelan from Brighton makes it two signings in two days, not bad!

....Bedford would have some knowledge of upcoming young players, due to her previous role,  but not sure how much she is aware of the market!!!

All very well bringing in experience but you hope there is some youthful exuberance brought in as well to up the tempo within this team. Gregory has been good last season, she has a bit of pace and can take on a Fullback in a foot race, we need more of that, we do not want to replicate the players we have already let go of or looking to drop to the bench.

I wouldn't worry, Whelan & Green are both, frankly, steps ahead of who we have/have had. We also had comfortably the youngest XI by average in the league last season, a couple 29-30 year olds won't go amiss...wouldn't expect Freya back though, Villa aren't keen on selling nor are we on paying a fee for anyone. Aggie Beever-Jones (Chelsea forward) and Carrie Jones (Man Utd CM) are two youngsters I'd expect us to be after on loan. We've looked at top flight-experienced defenders as well, Erin Simon & Brooke Hendrix, both Americans & former West Ham in the WSL and more recently played in the NWSL.

Former Everton manager Willie Kirk is expected to be named Leicester City's new Director of Women's and Girl's Football.

The Foxes advertised for the role last month, before manager Lydia Bedford signed a new two-year deal.

It is understood Kirk met board members earlier this month and could be announced within the next week.

Kirk previously managed Bristol City and Everton, and was assistant manager at Manchester United.

Leicester City finished 11th in the Women's Super League last season but have been recruiting for a new assistant manager and physical performance coach this summer.

They have also advertised a vacancy for the academy assistant manager and education lead.

- LCFC Women sign Wales international Carrie Jones
- Midfielder joins the Foxes on a season-long loan from Manchester United
- The 18-year-old joined the Red Devils in 2020

The exciting 18-year-old makes the temporary switch to Belvoir Drive on a season-long loan agreement having already spent three seasons in senior women’s football.

Speaking to LCFC TV, Jones said: “I am really pleased and excited to get started. I am very impressed with Belvoir Drive, and I can't wait to get going. The facilities here are really good and that shows how well they are supported in the women's game - it's a huge advantage that LCFC Women have.

"I am really excited to work with Lydia Bedford. What she's done for this team over the last couple of months has been positive. She wants to take this team to the next level, and I can't wait to be a part of that."

After graduating from the Cardiff City Ladies youth system in 2019, Jones made her FA Women's National League South debut for the Bluebirds aged 15. That season, the youngster would go on to make nine more appearances, scoring three goals.

LCFC Women is delighted to confirm that Missy Goodwin has agreed a contract extension with the Foxes following a successful first season at Belvoir Drive.

More on this story...

- Missy Goodwin signs contract extension with LCFC Women
- Young forward made seven appearances for the Foxes last season
- The 19-year-old joined the Club in January 2022

The 19-year-old - who made seven appearances in all competitions for the Foxes last term - joined the Club in January 2022 after the Foxes acquired her registration.

Speaking to LCFC TV, Goodwin said: “I am very happy to have signed a new contract here and I can't wait to get going again. Last season was tough, but we retained our WSL status, and we can only improve from here. We want to climb the table as much as possible this year.

"As a team, we want to show everyone that we are really kicking on - we don't want to be in the same position as last season. For me, minutes are really important for a young player, but you have to earn them. Hopefully I can impress on the training pitch and do that.”

Having progressed through the youth ranks at Birmingham City and Aston Villa, the forward made her senior debut for Villa in November 2021, against Sheffield United in the FA Continental Tyres League Cup before making the move to Leicestershire.

An England youth international, Goodwin has been a regular for her nation in various age categories, and currently represents the Lionesses Under-19s. Most recently, Goodwin competed in the UEFA Women’s Under-19 European Championship qualifying rounds.

Goodwin is now among the squad as they prepare to get their pre-season preparations underway ahead of a visit to Everton on the opening weekend of the 2022/23 season.

Hope our lcfc ladies have a better run this season. With a little luck and an upturn of form aim for a mid table finish. Will be tough against the teams at the top but as long as they can compete it’s all good progress. COYF!

I'm keen to see the impact the new signings make (and Demi extending is excellent news too!) so I'm looking forward to the season. I'm not expecting huge forward strides and I do think we'll still be in a relegation (or thereabouts) battle but if keep both the spirit and the progression going then we might just get a few surprise results. We're not a million miles away, we came long way in the 2nd half of last season.
