WSL:

1. Arsenal

2. Aston Villa

3. Brighton & Hove Albion

4. Chelsea (reigning champions)

5. Everton

6. Leicester City

7. Liverpool (newly promoted)

8. Manchester City

9. Manchester United

10. Reading

11. Tottenham Hotspur

12. West Ham United

Going to be a tough second season with newly promoted Liverpool likely to spend big, ourselves, Reading & Villa are probably the most likely to be in the fight at the bottom but with the right investment we could end up mid table.

Should be news on released/retained and whether Lydia Bedford is set to stay on as manager pretty soon.

Note on attendances from last season, that includes 3 games in Burton too, would’ve been well clear of Man City otherwise so the support is there for the team.

Pretty depressing attendances overall.  Hopefully it will continue to rise.

I imagine there’ll be a decent jump next season with the Euros this summer selling very well and TV figures supposedly being higher than expected…the FA wanted an average of 6,000 by 2024 so a long way to go

probably needs to be at least a 16 team league there seems to be several times a season where there is a month between games

....as the men's team are no longer in Europe, you would believe that games will be on Saturdays as opposed to Sundays!!!

The possibilities of games clashing ar significantly reduced and there is the opportunity to go and support on Sundays.

Makes me sad to think I was responsible for 2 at both Arsenal and spurs. Horrendous level of football, but can’t blame them for the first season I guess

Following players are leaving this summer with their contracts ending

Esmee De Graaf

Paige Bailey-Gayle

Sophie Harris

Abbi Grant

Luana Zajmi

...De Graaf has good skills but no pace, she can beat a player but can't get away from them!!!

Bailey-Gayle leaving is no surprise, she brings absolutely nothing to this team, slow, ponderous  and not sure she is aware of where she should be.

The other women on the list are not players that I  am familiar with, perhaps Abbi Grant may have been in a game or two.

I really hope they are bringing a lot of pace into this team, we can cause upsets, so long as we do not look to build in the same way other teams have chosen to do.

Es was telling people at the Spurs game that she was back off home, hadn't got a club sorted yet but was ready to go back, 4 years in a different country away from family by 24 is fair, been a very good performer for us.

PBG was electric her first season as a forward and the Championship winning season out wide but never really got going this season, she'll do alright if she settles somewhere

Sophie's a good backup/third choice GK but is more than good enough to start in the Championship or below and with that being either pro or semi pro now I can see her going somewhere down there

Zajmi was a strange signing, missed the start of the season with work permit stuff then wasn't really favoured then went out on loan and got injured straight away

Abbi Grant, signed her when she was injured, then she got injured again, played 2 or 3 games when everyone had Covid and went back to Scotland on loan

The WSL is such a difficult league to break into. The club will need to invest well to move away from the bottom of the table.

I felt De Graf had a good season but if she wants to go home then that’s fair enough, hope she finds a good club to play for. Shame about Bailey Gayle as she was great in the championship, especially that night when we beat reading.

Will Lydia Bedford be staying do we think?  Will she want to........

I think she is. I’m sure she was more or less talking as if she’ll be here next year in a recent interview.

DEPARTING LEICESTER CITY DEFENDER DE GRAAF JOINS FEYENOORD
By Daniel Pentland / May 24, 2022
Departing Leicester City defender Esmee de Graaf has joined Pure Energie Eredivisie Vrouwen club Feyenoord according to reports on the Dutch club’s official website.
The 24-year-old full-back is one of five players to have left Barclays FA Women’s Super League club Leicester City this summer. The player’s return to her native Netherlands had already been confirmed therefore the move to Feyenoord comes as no surprise.

De Graaf spent four years in England with both West Ham United and Leicester City. She made 21 appearances for the latter club in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League this season, helping The Foxes to retain their top flight status for a second year.

After securing her move to Feyenoord, De Graaf said “After playing in England for four years, I really wanted to return to the Netherlands. My whole family are Feyenoord supporters and I regularly sang Feyenoord songs as a little girl. This was an opportunity that I wanted to grab with both hands.”

De Graaf’s return to The Netherlands comes four years after leaving PEC Zwolle. She joins a Feyenoord side which finished the 2021/2022 season in fifth position in the Pure Energie Eredivisie Vrouwen table. ‘The Pride of the South’ collected 35 points from their 24 league games.

Might have got better crowds across the league if it was more of a level playing field rather than a clone of the PL.

I've said for ages that women's football needs to do its own thing, rather than copy the men. Go for smaller pitches and goals. Purpose built grounds.

Yes, it's great when they sometimes get 20,00 but most of the time they don't. It's like going to a gig - you'd rather be in a packed out Academy than a half empty arena. Way better atmosphere.

Plus, smaller pitches would make the games seem faster and more frenetic.
