I'm torn about getting one this year.

£42 is great value.

I had one last year but only went a few times, they just seemed to clash with us playing on a Sunday or we had been at home on the Saturday and coming back in again on the Sunday, after commuting into the City for work every weekday, was just a bit much.

LCFC Women Appoint Lisa Pearce As Director
LCFC WOMEN
Published 1 hr

LCFC Women can confirm that Lisa Pearce has been appointed as Director LCFC Women, as the senior staffing structure continues to grow to support the development in all areas of the business.
More on this story...
LCFC Women Appoint Willie Kirk As Director Of Football, Women & Girls
- Lisa Pearce named Director LCFC Women
- She will assume responsibility for all LCFC Women operations
- Appointment comes after Willie Kirk named Director of Football, Women and Girls
- Emile Heskey to become Technical Coach across men’s and women’s football

Lisa will join the club on 1 October, after serving for four years as CEO of British Wheelchair Basketball and will be responsible for the day-to-day running of the LCFC Women operation across football, commercial, administration, personnel and growth.

The appointment comes after the addition of Willie Kirk as Director of Football, Women and Girls, while Emile Heskey will now step up his involvement with the football operations with a new broader scope as Technical Coach for the Boys’ Under-18s and the LCFC Women First Team, alongside his continued role as an ambassador.

These significant additions to the staffing structure at LCFC Women reflect the incredible period of growth the team has experienced since turning professional following King Power International’s acquisition in the summer of 2020.

In its first season, the team earned promotion to the Barclays Women’s Super League for the first time as Championship winners as well as moving football operations to Belvoir Drive – the only professional women’s team in the country with a dedicated elite facility.

The commitment to the sustainable growth of women’s football in Leicestershire was taken even further with the announcement of an Academy pathway. Alongside this, the Club confirmed the introduction of home WSL fixtures to King Power Stadium – something that will continue as the team embark upon their second top-flight season under manager Lydia Bedford.

That progress and the Club’s vision for the future will now be driven forward by Lisa, who arrives as a proven leader in her field, having also served as CEO for the London Football Association in addition to holding senior positions with the Lawn Tennis Association and council authorities.

Leicester City Chief Executive Susan Whelan said: “Lisa’s appointment is a significant one for LCFC Women and further underlines our commitment to doing all we can to grow the women’s game – not only through on-pitch success but through sustainable and strategic progress in all areas of its operations.

“We’re delighted to be able to have somebody of Lisa’s experience on board to help us drive forward with our vision. She has enjoyed great success in her previous roles across various sports and that track record in strategy and development will be a great asset for us as we continue to build a platform to LCFC Women to be a leading light in the growth of women’s football.”

Newly appointed Director LCFC Women, Lisa Pearce added: “Taking this position is a huge privilege and it is an incredibly exciting prospect to be able to build upon a journey that has seen LCFC Women take many significant strides in a short space of time.

“The investment and commitment in the Football Club is there for all to see and the potential for growth is something I’m looking forward to helping drive forward with the help of the new structure the Club is putting in place.

“I’m really looking forward to getting started in the role and working with such a talented group of staff ahead of another season for the Club in the Barclays Women’s Super League.”

The new campaign will see LCFC Women begin with an away trip to Everton on Sunday 11 September before taking on Tottenham Hotspur at King Power Stadium a week later.

Money doesn't seem to be a problem at the club for day to day Admin and Management.

Would of thought they’d make more of Heskey becoming more involved than one line!

Seems to be a lot of confidence that the squad donest need much of an upgrade.  Or maybe lack of money, dont know.  Hope we not fighting relegation this season.

We need a few more players in otherwise we definitely will be

Eh, we were competitive but lacked experience in games against lower half sides last season. I'd like a goalscorer, Jess'work rate is fantastic but her finishing leaves a lot to be desired, but focusing on adding some experience across the squad in Whelan, Green and Simon as well as CJ Bott getting a proper bedding in after injury and it's marginal gains. Lower half relegation battle, sure, but it seems like the goal is to stabilise and push on from there

A proven top flight goalscorer is the big one, sounds obvious but our top goalscorer last season scored 3...

Didn't Purfield near enough match that in scoring direct from corners (maybe Rodgers can ask Lydia if she can help the men's team with set pieces )?

I'd be worried for West Ham before us this season tbh, just seen how much of an overhaul they've had in terms of playing squad (8 out, 9 in). If they don't gel then with just a 22 game season they could find themselves in a lot of trouble

Not far off 😂

And yeah, Brighton too, lost quite a few of their better players, one to us in Whelan as well. FWIW I don’t think we’ll be done in the transfer market yet anyway.

It's going to be a tough season but I suspect everybody knew that already. Keep fighting, keep the spirit, there's always something to play for. A point here and there makes a difference.

Unfortunately we had long runs of defeats.

I know, I was following. We got some good results too. They started playing some good football 2nd half of the season. It's not going to be easy by any stretch of the imagination (the difference in quality between teams is large) but get a few results go our way and who knows. If we can stay in the league and learn/build then that's success.

A higher level of fitness would help, seemed to run out of steam in a lot of matches we lost at least 3 matches in the last 10 minutes by the odd goal.

We conceded 14 goals from 80 minutes onward, which was 26% of the goals conceded.

We score no goals from 80 minutes onwards

All of which tells me we weren't fit enough.

Bedford had them on some army training course around Rutland Water for a few days at the start of pre season. They’ve done some other retreat stuff as well, seem to be focussing on team building and fitness, so hopefully that pays off.

Picked up a 1-0 win against Championship side Southampton at Belvoir Drive today. Will have been a good exercise with them starting the season next week and us having another 4 to go.

Southampton FC Women faced defeat against a top-tier Leicester City side in their final pre-season game.

Leicester City provided tough opposition for Southampton FC Women's final pre-season friendly ahead of the Barclays Women's Championship at Belvoir Drive Training Ground.

The Foxes started the brighter, forcing an early save from Kayla Rendell before dominating the possession. However, Saints grew into the game, creating a number of chances in the first half and preventing Leicester from going ahead.

A lapse of concentration early in the second period saw Leicester pounce on a ricocheted shot off the bar to turn home from inside the box, but Saints did well to snap back into action and played some encouraging football against the Super League opposition.

Hot conditions at Leicester City’s Belvoir Drive Training Ground were testing for both sides but it was Leicester who worked their first chance with a neat set play; a short ball was recycled round the back of Saints’ defence, allowing Leicester’s number 22 to unleash a shot, only to see Rendell’s outstretched leg send it wide.

Leicester continued to dominate possession in the opening exchanges, encamping themselves in the Saints half and patiently working the ball to find shooting opportunities.

However, Saints were quick to hit on the break given the opportunity. A quick one-two between Beth Lumsden and Megan Wynne saw the latter drive down the line and deliver into the box. Katie Wilkinson looked to get on the end of the cross, but was well-shepherded by two Leicester defenders.

Saints began to grow into the game as the clock ticked out of the initial ten minutes, with Milly Mott looking particularly assured against a strong Leicester attack.

Despite that, Rendell was once again called into action in the 11th minute, as a frustrated Leicester attacker let fly from outside the box - an easy stop in the end for Saints’ number one.

It was Saints with the next real chance of the game, as dogged perseverance from Wynne saw her win back the ball and feed Beth Lumsden. Some quick feet and a driving step forward saw the number ten unleash a rising ball towards the top of the net, only to see it parried away for a corner.

Saints were then unlucky to not take the lead in the 28th minute, as Wynne’s hard work once again caused issues for the Foxes back line. A nearly open goal beckoned as the ball came back across the box to Katie Wilkinson, but a strong recovery saw Leicester clear off the line.

Ella Morris really came alive in the closing ten minutes of the first half, confidently taking on her player on the left-hand side after a fantastically weighted ball from Paige Peake; Morris nearly causing an own goal, as her searching cross had to be tipped away by the Leicester keeper.

Saints had to be alert in the opening encounter of the second half, as a driving run from the Foxes’ right-winger saw the home team burst into the box. Some scrappy defending saw Saints manage to get the ball away, but it was a warning shot for the side.

Saints reacted well, with Morris winning a free-kick inside the Leicester half after once again tying her defender in knots with her quick feet.

Lucia Kendall’s free-kick looked dangerous as it sailed towards the top of the net, but Leicester’s keeper was equal to the effort, managing to clutch the ball out of the air before spilling it and then reclaiming.

However, it was Leicester who were able to break the deadlock in the 48th minute, as a long range shot crashed off the crossbar into the path of a blue shirt. Slow reactions from Saints saw the player slot the ball low and hard into the bottom corner to take the lead.

Alice Griffiths replaced Leeta Rutherford ten minutes into the second half, providing much needed fresh legs in the beating sun.

Morris went agonisingly close shortly after the change, nipping in on a loose touch to snatch the ball from the left-back and curl a shot goalward which flew narrowly high and wide.

More changes in the 70th minute saw Ella Pusey, Ciara Watling and Phoebe Williams enter the fray, with Lumsden, Wilkinson and Ward make way.

A sustained period of pressure from Saints looked like it would bear fruit as the game headed into the closing ten minutes, as Leicester struggled to properly clear their lines under the high-press.

Ciara Watling looked to provide the winning assist in the dying moments as she weaved past her player on the touch line, before seeing her cross-shot blocked.

A tough game for Saints, but an encouraging one against an established Barclays Women’s Super League side, creating plenty of their own chances in front of the Leicester goal.

Marieanne Spacey-Cale and her side will now look forward to their opening game of the league season against Charlton at St Mary’s.

Tickets are still on sale for supporters to witness Saints make history in the second tier of Women’s football - come and support them!
