Doncaster winning 2-0, might be tough for Nelson to get back in if they keep a clean sheet.

That's what happened at Rochdale when he was on England duty then injured. He managed to get back in in the end though.

Hopefully he will at Doncaster too. Schofield seems keen on him which should help.

I'm getting a sneaking feeling Nelson is gonna be around the 1st team squad in 18 months or so...

logically speaking he needs to do well enough here to get a loan at a team going for promotion in league one next season.

Then he’d need a year after that in the championship.

There’s a long path but i’m glad to hear he’s doing well in a more suitable set up.

good job huuuuuuuth

If Amartey, Soyuncu and Vestergard depart that is almost certain. He will be fourth or fifth choice but he can afford to be patient.

If I was in charge of loans I’d be hoping that Nelson does well at Doncaster, and then seeing if Cheltenham fancied having him next season if they stay up in league 1.

I’ve watched them a fair bit due over the past few seasons due to having friends in the area and they play good football and have a track record for taking on and improving young CBs on loan in recent seasons. Our relationship with them should be positive after the Callum Wright loans too.

Hopefully, currently we are losing 3 CB in the summer, replacing one with an Academy product would be helpful.

Weren’t a couple of academy players down at Wycombe as well last season? If they don’t go up this year you’d think they’d be a decent option at the top end of the table for him

Ben Nelson getting rave reviews, finally.

Interestingly in the game against Swindon he was playing as a wide centre back, almost like a left back

Where as last night against Barrow he was much more central

Interesting. I always thought for the U23s that he was less impressive in a back 3 as one of the wide CBs than in a back four, but hopefully this is all part of his development. His one other minor weakness was he didn't seem quick off the mark but that wasn't hugely noticeable.

they swapped players and positions mate.

played on the left in the first one but the central cb was rotated for barrow and he was moved to the middle of the 3 👍
