You are all absolutely having a laugh if you think this is hot.

that first summer I moved from Leicester to North Carolina I officially melted 3 times. It’s only because of the skilled Drs I was able to unmelt. On  a side note, it’s due to be 37c here on Monday and is supped to ‘ feel like ‘ 41c because of the humidity.

Same up in the Greater Toronto area 35 feels like 45. Sure, it's not Australia levels but at least I have central air conditioning.

Thank Christ for air conditioning, that's all I can say.

There's something uniquely unpleasant about being too hot.

Genuinely in 50 years or so I think air conditioning will be seen as essential as central heating is now.

20 years in the UK, more likely.

One thing I miss since retirement is the office air-conditioning. A good 8 hours a day relief from being too hot

I noticed today that some robins have inadvisably built a nest in a nearby balcony/roof terrace drain. Unfortunately, you can't really make it out in this picture...

Are you not going to tell them?

Anyone considered air con in their house, maybe a cpl of units upstairs?

I'd say it's almost the majority of family and friends now that have a £300 or so portable AC unit.

Ours stays in our bedroom and we put it on a couple of hours before we go to bed then leave it on overnight. Electric bills go up but for me it's priceless being able to sleep well at night.

I'd love an integrated system for the whole house. To be honest if I got a windfall (inheritance, tax free lump sum from pension etc) in the future it's probably something I'd do.

What's it like noise-wise? I'm a light sleeper and still have to use earplugs even though I don't work shifts any more.

Even the noise of a standard fan can keep me awake/wake me up.

Be thankful it's not snowing.

Imagine shovelling snow in this heat!

It's telling that people in the UK are now so inconvenienced by excess heat events that the above discussions are taking place on the regular.

I find it odd that people travel abroad to "get some sun", yet when we get it here people can't stand it.

I understand the point that high temperatures in the UK are becoming more frequent due to the reasons you have (rightly) proffered many times.

Yeah, I think people in the UK like the idea of nice toasty heat as long as they can then have a break from it.

I won't sugar coat it, they are noisy.

I kind of find it like white noise though. I can't sleep with the TV on but I can with the air con.

You could also turn it off when you're going to sleep, we find doing that though we wake up a few hours later sweating our tits off.

It's totally different being on holiday in the heat though and having to do the daily grind in it at home.

On holiday too you always have that respite of your hotel room, or jumping in the pool.

I guess we don't have a pool and a bar to get an ice cold insipid "beer" from in this country.

A Weatherspoon's with a pool... now there's an idea...

We got a Bosch AC unit which lives outside and connects to four wall mounted units inside (each of our bedrooms and living room). When it's on quiet mode you barely hear it. Problem is you get accustomed to the thing and have it on way more than you'd imagine making.

Not cheap (6k at the time), but my god the smugness in weeks like this is worth the price of admission.

Don't mind the heat. Humidity fvcks it up.

Agreed. 30 degrees C dry heat is alright, 30% humidity at that temperature isn't great, 60% and above is just brutal.

Especially overnight when it creeps up to 70% and above as well.

I'm probably one of those odd people that have never gone abroad seeking the sun.
