Faes is prem level when he can be bothered, the problem is that at least 50% of the time he's a complete calamity. No his is NOT and for the exact reason you mention..Inconsistency.

Faes will never reach peak Evans. A 36 year old Evans is arguably still better than Faes. Certainly, getting a game at Leicester is not a good gauge whether he is good too … at least at the minute

If we're calling out Faes then whole 11 needs binning tbh. If any player regresses to a 5 year old that’s never played the game against our local rivals I would expect the same reaction. 1

Dmitry Posted 25 October 2024 Posted 25 October 2024 Faes is extremely inconsistent: there's no way to predict what he will do in the box. This inconsistency to me indicates that he's not a PL caliber player. Nothing personal, but he's got to be find another league for himself; he'd be happier somewhere else. That being said, it won't happen until we finally find a very good central defender. We are in desperate need.

It is ok if you think more highly of Faes than me, but Evans was consistently good for a long time. I am sure he had bad games too, but certainly I don’t think he had been “very bad for a fairly large period of time”. His class was always there (he was a Fergie favourite). He was just part of a very poor set up by Rodgers who, as I said, focused on our defenders passing out from the back as you may recall, but they had no support from midfield especially with Ndidi as the midfield pivot and they were constantly under pressure from the opposition press (and Ndidi passing the ball back to them or putting them under pressure). The set up forced team mistakes after team mistakes, and we could hardly get out of our own half. Blame is wrongly placed on Evans if you analyse a few levels down. Where was Evans in our relegation season? Where was he when a team under his supposed great leadership bottled the champions league twice

I don't rate Faes highly I just don't think using Evans to highlight how poor Faes is works when Evans didn't seem remotely arsed for that final year especially

Your argument could be used re say Maddison too? He was playing well for us as far as I can recall, but he was also around during all those years? Maddison is still doing well at Spurs? Maddison played more than well enough. Won us plenty of games that season. Tielemans, Ndidi, Evans, Amartey should get the blame 1
frany104 Posted 25 October 2024 Posted 25 October 2024 Donkey. Can’t wait to get him sold. being Ben Nelson back. He’s miles better 1

OK. (Though I still don’t think it is right to say that of Evans in his final year with us as to me the problem was the team set up. How can a team with the squad we had be relegated … still baffles me …).
StanSP Posted 25 October 2024 Posted 25 October 2024 Amateur performance from him. These are the kinds of games you want majority of players to exceed in. But he was one of many that were distinctly underwhelming.
sm1 Posted 25 October 2024 Posted 25 October 2024 (edited) Although not a fan, I can't exclusively blame Faes for the last goal. If Mads stayed in goal, he probably would've saved it. We were all over the place defensively. Edited 25 October 2024 by sm1
Raj Posted 25 October 2024 Posted 25 October 2024 Always say he has a feck up in him every game he plays.
JimJams Posted 25 October 2024 Posted 25 October 2024 We all know he's got it in him unfortunately. Sometimes you get away with it, like that backheel thing he tried a few games back as the last man, sometimes you don't. I reckon it's ego. That and he's a poor judge of a ball over the shoulder. There were rumours of Newcastle coming in for him in January. Wonder how that'd go if there's any truth in them.
