I think you're overdoing it a bit.

For every Dunfermline v Falkirk humdinger, there are a load more sedate games - where the only atmosphere is a bunch of black-shirted 15 years olds jumping up and down endlessly to an incessant drum beat.

I've been a couple of Scottish games recently, and yeah it was decent.   But we're not talking about 1980 Celtic/Rangers levels of passion.    As I said, some of the lower league English clubs have got a pretty big "ultra" scene.   A lot bigger than anything in the top 2 divisions.

The Hearts/Hibs games look about the best there is at the moment.  I suspect the Dundee derby is also well tasty.   Celtic/Rangers games used to be the best, until the clubs and authorities pretty much nullified the away support ... so it's only at Hampden you get anything like a proper old firm game.

Who? The only ultras group worth mentioning outside of the top two English divisions are Lincoln, and even they blend casual culture in to their scene massively. Would be interested to know who I'm missing!

Man City remain the strangest fanbase. Singing about us sacking Ranieri, so weird. Obsessed with it.

For a fanbase that has seen their team win everything possible, they spent a lot of time silent until they scored the second goal.

There were a couple self depreciating things in there which was how they used to be. The Ranieri thing is weird and shows they have no self awareness - literally a collective medical condition

I agree not every scotland game is bouncing, of course not theres not a league in the world where it is.

The point i was trying to make is there league was as bad as ours but over just a few years its been transformed. An idea of whats possible.

I remember not too long ago the old firm matches had pretty much all the fans sitting down...now rangers and celtic games have the whole stadium standing, this started when the UB and GB started to influence the rest of the fans inside the stadium.

Now there are large numbers of ultra groups in the scottish leagues they have transformed the atmospheres at the clubs.  They have practically the same rules and regulations as us (some actually stricter than ours) but have managed to create change.

And I dont see a big ultra scene anywhere in England.

They are increasing the away support for the OF games, so it should be even better.  But thats a good example of how its changed in scotland.  Imagine a big derby game in england with no away fans it would be pretty dead yet the OF games were still bouncing.

They should look closer to home – Mancini won Man City their first league title and FA Cup for over 40 years and he was still sacked for the crime of finishing second in the league

Yes and we couldn't even reply properly with a chant

Is it any different to the factually inaccurate stuff we sing.... Occasionally?

It's riled our fans, albeit not enough for them to reply in the actual match.

Fair points.

I accept that the atmosphere is pretty lousy at most of the top 2 division grounds, for the reasons that have already been stated eg many at full capacity, extortionate ticket prices, OTT security, obsession with making it a "family club", etc etc.   ie basically a total disregard for the supporter.

But I was pleasantly surprised to find that at the lower end of the league, where clubs actually value your support a bit more, the atmosphere was much better than I had expected ... certainly in terms of an organised singing section/drum banging/flag waving/young lads group ("ultras" or whatever you want to call it).

In the last 12 months I've been to Accrington Stanley and Colchester Utd, and both of those clubs had a good sized sections giving it absolutely everything.  I just don't think it's true to say there's nowhere in England with a good atmosphere.   In terms of comparison, I'd say that the clubs with average crowds in the 3-4000 range are not dissimilar to those mid-sized clubs in Scotland with similar crowds.

Obviously the Celtic/Rangers/Hearts/Hibs/Aberdeen/etc etc brigade are head-and-shoulders above most clubs in the Premier League, but that wasn't my original point.  It was that quite a few of our 4th Division ("League Two") clubs, seem to be picking up the slack of the so-called bigger clubs.

Unrelated ...

Scotland really has some strange rules regarding alcohol ... on trains.    I think I'm right in saying, you can't drink your own alcohol on a station in Scotland, or on a Scotrail train, but you can drink on other TOC trains in Scotland  eg LNER, Avanti West Coast, TransPennine.  In addition, you're not even allowed to display alcohol on Scotrail trains, even if it's unopened.   So the guard was giving announcements reminding everyone to cover up any alcohol, like it was hard core pornography.      What do the authorities think will happen if someone catches sight of a ... shock horror ... bottle of wine?

Banned for swearing? Is that really a thing? Football was always a place you let off steam, a place where you could forget the doom and gloom of spending 40+ hours a week at work just for 90 minutes on a Saturday.
I find it incredible that people still pay vast amounts of money to attend what has become the equivalent of going to the cinema.

Seems like it, the fan in question has been banned since the West Ham home fixture, and has not returned since. Shocking treatment by the club to be honest, and shame on those that did the reporting.

The atmosphere is as worse as I can remember it. Even the singing section is falling silent.

I would kill to have 5 minutes (although I'd probably need longer) in a room with Top to vent off my anger and frustrations and to get answers as to how and why he has allowed what he took over to regress so embarrassingly badly in what we see as every area of this club.

He inherited a club that was at the very top in its history and has ****ed it up to embarrassing levels.

I'd leave the meeting by reminding him how ashamed his father would be.

LCFC was incredible in every area under Vichai, it was his baby. The running of it, the support, the decisions made, the players we signed, now Top et-al have taken us to the depths and misery we thought were gone.

If he can't run the club how it needs to be run or make the decisions to turn this sh*tshow around then he needs to find someone who can!

I've been given a year ban for something they admit themselves they can't even prove I did (which I didn't do). Just for some context I had over 700 points - all gone because my face doesn't fit for whatever reason. If they're willing to do it to someone with my sort of loyalty points score I don't really know who they won't go for, to be honest.

What did they accuse you of if you don’t mind my asking?

Setting off smoke bombs. I didn't do it - just happened to be in the vicinity. This is enough for a years ban now apparently. They'd never be able to prove it because I didn't actually do it. They're going on "balance of probabilities" - tells you a lot really. They don't need to do this, but feel the need to do so.

I can only assume they need the banning numbers up to justify the absurd number of away stewards we seem to have. I'm not buying that we're one of the most troublesome away fanbases in the country like the numbers seem to think we are. Very much a self-fulfilling prophecy.

That's insane. Can you appeal it, or get the FSA to support you in doing so?

Sounds terrible pal.

I’ve not been to a home game since the Napoli, Warsaw and Moscow fixtures, I’m sure you remember those fixtures saw a fair bit of crowd trouble but it wasn’t that trouble that keeps me away.

I’ve sat in all parts of the stadium and everywhere is just so flat, I likened it to the cinema, hardly anyone in their seats until 10 minutes before the performance, and if anyone speaks negatively or swears you are met with a frown or a steward.

The atmosphere is about as fake as it can get, the club have turned away large numbers by cutting off general sale for big games or leaving us with the odd seat here and there for lesser teams.

The atmosphere is declining everywhere it seems, but if you are getting done for swearing, why is that different to being in a pub?! At Filbert St you wouldn’t take your kids in Pen 3 or 2 when it was open but the kop now is basically a replica of the family stand by the sounds of it and L1 sounds tame to what it was 10 years ago.

I think the Man City home match went to general sale with tickets available on the day, which probably speaks more about decking ticket sales overall than any decision by the club

Absolutely shocking. Sorry to hear you've had this done to you, but doesn't surprise me at all.

That's disgraceful.

Have you looked at taking a bit of legal advice? Maybe even those No Win No Fee types as surely you'd have a case if they can't prove anything.

Having said that, If they treated me in that way I'm pretty certain I'd find it very difficult to want to show any loyalty to them as much as a big part of my life they are.

I did look at getting tickets for someone with my buying history, even though it let me select it wouldn’t let me buy. It’s done this before tbh.

Disgraceful, get some legal advice if you can.

@Dan LCFC i would e-mail the club saying that youre seeking legal advice on taking the matter further. If that doesnt change their stance then go after them legally. As said above get the FSA, papers involved etc. They wont like bad publicity surrounding them to the wider public.

You lucky bastard. 😂

All joking aside, you need to get in touch with the FSA and a solicitor. There's no way that can hold up under any kind of legitimate appeals process; they're accusing you of a criminal offence without evidence for a start.

FSA give a couple of firms' names here. https://thefsa.org.uk/our-work/casework/#:~:text=If you would like a,worked together for many years.

Yeah at the end of the day I think image is quite important to them - after all I've seen proof in the past that on a good behavioural agreement that they have a section where you have to sign to not slag the club off on socials. True story.

No doubt the T&Cs on your tickets cover their arses to be able eject you for any suspected foul play.

Unfortunately this is probably true. None of this was ever designed to be fair. They know what they're doing. Let's see how happy they are to turn people away when they're rotting in the Championship barely scraping 25,000 against Cardiff City.
