Why not, Bertrand worked out well

See my reply to Pliskin above which applies to this too. Bertrand both a crock and looking for a last pay day so was a disaster.

However, a 34 year old pro who keeps fit and has the right mentality can be an asset for a year. I just posted the question as I know nothing about how he’s been so don’t know if these concerns would apply to him. I mean the fact he is leaving Swansea on a free is a concern.

However, I am hoping we are going to adopt a Pearson approach to transfers and build a young hungry squad. When we were last in the championship, Pearson knew the value of an older, experienced pro on a free to help guide the youngsters with Phillips being the best example.

That is what my thinking was so the smart ass sarky replies can f*** off. If you want to actually a discussion great!

Why does Bertrand always pop up as another Rodgers calamity?

Everyone on here notes that Pearson made a few experienced signings and agree these types are crucial for a younger squad, we just lost nearly 150yrs experience with Morgan, Fuchs etc leaving and Bertrand to me made sense to get that been there player, Chelsea, England blah blah, & he had a role to play more off the field than on.

He actually started fairly well then the dreaded knee injury which he’s been unable to clear and will probably retire him, but where does the we signed an over the hill sicknote come from?

We signed him at 31yrs old not to old for a defender, came with great experience as mentioned, the season prior he played 29 premieres games 34 total, season before that 32 premiership games 35 total that’s hardly the stats of a constant sicknote for crying out loud…the guy smashes his knee up after a few games for us & we don’t see him again and all hell breaks loose on here, to say it was a terrible buy, it wasn’t terrible it was an unfortunate buy.

It could happen to Real Madrid signing Bellingham for €150m and 4 weeks later he smashes his knee never to play again is that a terrible buy or unfortunate?

(Granted no player should be going for these sums but there for illustration)

Vestergaard now that’s a noodle scratcher!

It was more the fact it was both of them signed and reports suggested Rodgers purposely overruled our usual model to sign them.

I must have missed them games you say he started well in. All I remember is him keeping a player onside in the cup by being laughably out of position.

Missed his corner taking best at the club for sure and had a decent FreeKick on him

My Dream squad list either if we stay up or go down

Strikers

Vardy

Iheanacho

Gyökeres

Langstaff (no harm in trying worth risk squeeze Talent out of him for a few years)

Daka (Loan)

Opoku (Can extend Loan at OHL if he likes)

Wingers

Nelson

Diallo

Gnonto

Albrighton

Lookman in Future once re-established Top 7-8 PL

Midfielders

Alex Scott (CAM)

Akpom (CAM)

Hamer (CM)

KDH (CM) - May sell if he continues with letting the ball slide past him giving up possession.

Soumare (CDM)

Mendy (CDM)

Choudhury (CDM)

CB

Souttar

Faes

3 New CB's

Wing Backs/ Wide Backs

J. Justin (Sell if struggles continue after injury recovery)

Thomas

Kristiansen

Castagne

Periera ( would try to sell for a decent amount but injury problems may prevent that so keep)

May need 1-2 new wing backs

GK

Schmeichel (until retire) or as GK staff

Iversen (If KS return to no 1 will want minutes so loan to club with good GK coach to sort Distribution)

James Trafford to Challenge for Position

Coaches (Not Full list)

Retain Shakespeare

Stowell

Konchesky

Fuchs

Wes Morgan to start his coaching liscences

Andy King (mainly as coach but can step in as player if needed.)

Dream Managers over the next 10+

Start - Pearson to build

Then - Ranieri to add final touches

Then - Mark Robins club stability period

Then - Jose Mourinho Challenge for Top places.

Bring back Steve Walsh (Scout)

Great amount of Team Building prowess and Leadership much needed at the club

Joel Piroe and

Cameron Archer

Gift Orban

can get chucked in down the road once we have Vardy retire and if we end up selling a midfielder or striker or 2 or can't get some listed.

Way down the Road

Jacob Ramsey if we back above Villa.

Carlos Borges PLEASE! I hope we go sign some young promising players for the championship. His stats are ridiculous this season for PL2 so there will Loads of clubs sniffing around him this summer but he’s the one I want the most.

How about bringing Kamal Sowah back from Brugge? Would boost our wing options, could see him doing well in championship and worse case scenario, we send him off to Leuven again.

The moment he did his flip flop on his contract length, we should have exited. A huge warning signing when he said two years wasn’t enough and he wanted four.

He did only get 2yrs didn't he?

I'd imagine its pretty standard for any 30+ player to ask for a longer contract, seems Rudkin did well in this instance

He did.

The deal was but agreed bar signatures at 2 yrs. Bertrand went away on holiday. Came back with his agent asking for a 4 year deal.

Quite the opposite that 30+ players ask for it - realistically they know they will get no better than a 2 year deal.

Just completely spoke volumes for the blokes dedication - he wanted this deal to be in effect a pension rather than the desire to prove his worth

Huth to use his Chelsea connections to get a couple in on loan, Lewis Hall etc

He left Chelsea in 2006, he probably has very few, if any at all, connections there.

I don't think a striker should be a priority as I think we'll go into the season with Daka and Vardy but Mikautadze seems a prodigious talent. Metz aren't going up, scored 23 and assisted 8.

Callum O'Hare at Cov profiles really well statistically. We could probably loan him (if they go up that is 💀)

I absolutely love the look of Mikautadze but fear he's destined for prem or top of ligue 1.

Yes, I mean as a permanent transfer back (tbh theyd probably be open to a loan too)

Ah ok, when you said send off to Leuven again it read as though you thought he was still on loan, apologies 👍
