Anyone making good progress this year? I’ve lost 20kg (3 stone?) eating at 1500 and going to the gym a few times a week. Want to get to my target of -95kg before mid March, so I’m trying 1100 calories for 3 weeks to see how it goes. Been going since Saturday and haven’t felt as hungry as usual, and have seen some decent drops in weight

Well done. I need to lose 5kg to get back to just being ordinarily fat! Seems to be getting more difficult as I get older. The pleasures of life decline with age and one of the few left is eating.

Not much pleasure in football either these days.

One of the things about calorie counting is you don’t have to cut out what you like, unless that’s a 3,000 calorie mega dominoes pizza or whatever. I still eat takeaways and stuff I like, just try and not eat before so I feel like using all my calories was worth it.

For some reason I feel being more extreme and going quicker motivates me more. I work from home though, so I guess people on their feet all day would need to eat more

Do you count macros at part of calorie counting? Eating more protein, more fat and less carbs will help you lose weight a lot more efficiently if that makes sense. Not quite keto but keto-lite.

Try to stick to high protein and fibre to fill me up. Don’t really eat that many carbs apart from potatoes.

I make a decent meal that fills me up and is really tasty most nights:

300g chicken marinated in tikka masala paste

250g~ diced potato

Half a chopped onion

half a chopped pepper

Bag of microwave broccoli

Add a bit of yoghurt sauce on top, lemon juice and some crumbled feta

1100 seems dangerously low for someone who also works out.

I used to box and I used to do competitive road cycling too so my go-to cardio had always been cycling and jump-rope. Cycling however never helped me shift belly fat and my knee's are like shit so jump-rope and high-impact exercise does my knees for weeks on end.

I had a colleague who was an avid cycler (like 20+ miles a day). He also had a rather large belly. Evidently cycling didn't help.

I've lost just under 3st since October last year.

<2000 cal a day for 5 days a week, and I let loose a bit at the weekend with some nice scran and a few bevvies.

I go to the gym 3 times a week if I can and also try to get a couple of 5k runs in and also try to keep my protein intake above 200g a day to maintain muscle mass.

This. The problem you'll face with such a low calorie intake - you will see a reduction in muscle mass, as well as your body fat. It can cause your metabolic rate to slow down since your body will basically go into survival mode, meaning you may gain weight more easily as soon as you return to normal habits as it will want to re-store as much energy as possible as fat.

Long term changes over short term extreme dieting is the way.

Ove just lost 2 stones in a week, the lipo suction worked a treat.  Happy days

Only kidding, lost a stone so far since 8th Jan.

Cut the booze, low carbs, play footy and train 3 times a week

Started trying to lose some weight 2 weeks ago as it was getting a bit ridiculous . So far 4lbs over the 2 weeks just by keeping track of what I am eating and trying to keep to 1500 calories a day . I do bike with my daughter to school in the mornings which is about 40 mins over all before work . Don’t really have the time or money for the gym though. Just for the ring fit out of the cupboard to see how I get on with that for a few weeks 😂

I'm about 4 and a half pounds down after a few days of stopping snacking and delaying my breakfast until lunchtime and basically skipping lunch. Doesn't feel like too much of a hardship so far, let's see if that continues.

My snacking was getting out of hand and I was kidding myself that it was ok because of all the exercise I do when it clearly wasn't

Stopped drinking in mid Jan and run 3 times a week but still have the same belly fat lol

Need to be measuring yourself and looking at the scales mate 697 aren’t going to see a lot of visual change in 2-3 weeks

It's simply calories in vs calories out.

People tend to go extreme into some kind of diet that is unsustainable - unless you have sublime dicipline, no kids, a career where there is no working outside of core hours you can probably find the time to do that, but mostly it's unrealistic.

Saying that I fluctuate between 14-15st and don't take on board any of my own advice above, but when I do I tend to feel much better.

cutting calories can work and especially short term (6 months or less) as it is literally science - it doesn't work long term. You will plateau and the likes of metabolic adaptation take place. Back in cavemen times when you were starving your body would slow you metabolism down and try it's hardest so hang onto fat as it didn't know when the next meal was coming - it doesn't know we have a shop selling food on every corner now.

generally eat well (whole foods) and move about and you will see results. When you do plateau eat at maintenance calories for a week every now an again as that can help

you literally cannot spot reduce to get rid of fat in certain areas either

you can also be skinny and have a large percentage of visceral fat (fat around your organs) which can have long term consequences. If you eat loads of junk food but are skinny/slim and don't feel like it is a concern just bare that in mind. You can get this measured if you speak to your GP

I tipped the scales at 14 1/2 stone on Jan 4th which put me about 2 1/2 stone overweight.  I now have a smoothie and a Latte for breakfast, soup for lunch and a normal dinner Monday to Friday and have let myself be slightly naughty on the weekends, even having a few units of alcohol.

We have just got 2 dogs as well so with walking to and from work and taking them out, I am walking around 7-8 miles a day Monday to Friday.  I am walking 1-2 miles a day at the weekend.

So far I have lost 8 pounds.  Walking is great and once I am down a little more in weight will start using my weights again.  Going to be 50 in March so I am wary of weighing too much and putting strain on my joints and heart.

It's my sticking point. I'm hovering at 70kg, 11 stone flat which for my height is a bit over. It's that damn belly fat causing aggro.

But I'm down from 13.5 stone in early 2022 and I'm lifting far greater than I ever thought I would. I can squat and deadlift over my own body weight.

Marathon training should hopefully sort it.
