A sign of a more robust approach?

https://www.leicestermercury.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/enzo-maresca-booked-southampton-three-8760205

City have received 17 yellow cards in the Championship this season, the fifth-highest total in the division, and there are a trio of players who have already racked up three each: Harry Winks, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, and Jannik Vestergaard.

Having been booked three times in six games, those three now have to avoid picking up two yellow cards across City’s next 13 Championship fixtures, otherwise they will be handed a one-match suspension.

Stephy Mavididi and Abdul Fatawu have received two yellow cards in the Championship, while Callum Doyle, Mads Hermansen, Ricardo Pereira, and Yunus Akgun have all received one each.

A number have been for disagreeing with officials, Two for KDH and one for Winks?

The refereeing has been substandard, but they need to learn not to rise to it. Easier said than done, especially with the one re: Winks. That ref was horrendous!

Don’t mind the ones for a sneaky pull back to stop a threatening break as that seems part and parcel of the game that is used against us by opponents but picking them up for back chat is pretty silly and may contribute to suspensions later in the season

It's not about being robust and physical it's just a byproduct of making more challenges.

Rodgers had us disengage, stand off, hold shape and not press. We weren't really fit enough to press overly effectively and so we played in a more passive block.

Maresca wants us to defend on the front foot and engage far more proactively. It means you're going to make more tackles which means inherently you're also going to commit more fouls. I don't think we're any dirtier we're just less passive.

Yeah and we were fantastic at that

Quite an impressive feat for a winger who has played less then an hour of football

Spot on and long may it continue. We have enough of a squad to drop in for the odd game if a short one match suspension is forthcoming.

in fairness the bar of what’s allowed has significantly been changed this season. It will take some getting used to

Excellent work. We should be targeting 150 this season. Falling short of that but certainly progress from previous years!

There's also signs of the tactical fouls that we have so badly been lacking, Winks pulling someone back because they've got past him is an example, before that player would have been Plowed to run into the edge of our box.

Much better.

...very much the dark arts have come to the fore!!!

You recognise what is being done and you understand why there was a "tug" or a deliberate stepping across an attacker, making little effort to try and win the ball. Didn't like to see it with the big clubs and not keen seeing us adopting the same policy.

It is seen as an acceptable part of the game, and most would always have viewed it as the big clubs getting away with things. I always wanted it stamped out, as it appeared they were taking it in turns to commit the foul and still keep everyone on the pitch.

It might be interesting if cumulative yellow cards could but the next bad foul into a sin bin situation for 3 minutes.
