I would submit that is at least mostly in response to comments made about her race. And her gender, too.

 

Don't disagree there are likely a hundred better black female pundits out there though and the Beeb could do much better in terms of standard.

She's referred to 'you white boys' a couple of times. 

 

If we change the race to 'you black boys' it would be deemed highly inappropriate and border on racism. I don't see that there's a distinction, personally. I know some people are willing to look past stuff like that as some kind of restorative acceptance but I don't find it okay.

This isn't too diminish her experience of racism - I'm well aware of how poorly she was treated at the Olympics and beyond.

Not particularly fussed who the pundits are, as long as those selected are able to analyse the game and add facts/understanding for the viewer. Aluko, Ferdinand, Souness, Joe Cole to name a few are all absolutely horrendous and should be nowhere near any punditry lists

 

Emma Hayes has on numerous occasions brilliantly added to panels, and shown up some of her male counterparts with her understanding of the game.

I don't disagree, and it's a difficult issue, but again I think it a reaction rather than a statement in a vacuum.

 

Whether that mitigates is obviously down to the beholder.

 

On topic, agree with the general sentiment that we've had some cracking games so far.
