I actually sympathise with the refs for those kind of decisions to make for the Simons goal there. Such a subjective thing to decide.

That gets given against a smaller nation. Shock it was our officials that took forever.

Oh sorry, I missed that. Why did it take so long then?

Yep that was the issue, took too long for them to confirm their correct decision.

I am firmly a believer that the technology is massively flawed but my god, these English officials really don't help the case. Totally fuelling the "it's the refs" argument - I think both are possible.

PGMOL needs either a total overhaul or disbanding. Whatever it is we're doing isn't working. How can the Premier League with this much money and prestige have some of the worst referees in Europe? Only a matter of time until they start drafting some in from abroad.

Our officials are a disgrace. If it takes that long for them to make a decision they shouldn’t be in the job.

TBF we don't know how long other refs from other countries would have taken in the same situation or what decisions they ‘d make but I suppose it doesn't help their cause.

Atwell and controversial decisions seem to follow him !

Easy to have quicker decisions with simple offside calls which is what some had been comparing this too .

Is there an issue with communication maybe ?

We have seen in the VAR videos how chaotic it all seems to be.

I'd imagine this thread would be a little busier if that was the Prem officials team last night

Steve Clarke was complaining that the ref wasn’t from Europe.

Who is to say a European ref would have given that as a penalty ..

And they might have missed the pen?

It's a bit of a weird flex for Clarke to aim criticism at the ref for 'being from Argentina'.

Did make me laugh that he thinks just because he's from Argentina he wouldn't know the language. Even though their main language is Spanish...

You just know that an English ref would've given that. Must make sure that we stay friends with those that don't like us. Just like Shearer last night, assume that he was laughing inside with his fingers crossed.

There is a big split in opinion a as ever with these decisions but a lot of ex players think it was a penalty.
