So it seems Trump has won this fairly easy.  Now all day yesterday and pretty much the last month all I have read on main stream media is how close this race is. How it is a 50/50 knife edge split where literally 80,000 votes either way could decide it.

Pollsters and projections couldn’t split them right up until the last minute.

So imagine my surprise that Trump was a solid 4/7 on with the bookies.

Perhaps in future when all these political experts are so confused with the 50/50 race they get on the phone to Denise Coates from Stoke on Trent as she knew exactly how this was going to go down.

Wasn't Harris shorter odds than that at the bookies to win the popular vote?

If you wouldn't mind mate, I'd like an answer to my question first before I address yours.

On warming? Resilience is more important than adaptation now. The various responsible parties have failed us for generations re climate, it’s too late now. Global Investment in climate risks and opportunities is growing YoY by ~20%.
Still searching for any verified evidence, not rhetoric, that Harris will make any material difference to NDCs or global warming goals. Well it’s too late now, she failed to provide any

Thank you.

Without power, rhetoric and pledges is all we have to go on, but yes, it's moot now.

WRT the overall matter, I hope you're wrong when you say it's too late, but if you're not, I do hope resilience programs include holding those responsible parties accountable for all the blood that will be on their hands.

On topic, it now appears to be tradition to have astronauts landing on the Moon talking exclusively to presidents either accused of or convicted of a felony.

Thing that amazes me with all of this is that, although close, he'd been favourite with the bookies for some time. Despite this, there was huge news coverage, and posters here saying the same thing, that Kamala will win this easily, polls are misleading etc.

It'd the same as the UK one, every poll was predicting a wipe out for the incumbents but people wouldn't believe it as it's not what they wanted to hear.

We take the Mick out of the Yanks for their "alternative facts", but there's huge evidence in past few pages we're no different at all.

Zero change Musk becomes president, he would get bored 5 days into the campaign.

My word, I’m surprised Vince McMahon isn’t on stage with him! This speech is akin to a pissed up father at a wedding who hasn’t written anything, and he’s just pulling anyone up to say something…….

That's the only slither of comfort I'm taking from it, while Musk has his ear (they'll spectacularly fall out at some point) it's going to be good for space exploration.

... did many people here say she'd win easily? I think a lot of people saw it for what it was - variance of outcomes about 50/50, but those outcomes themselves would not necessarily be close.

I feel physically sick at this news. I’m 79, so I’ve had my (fairly decent) life, but I’ve got children and grandchildren. I hate the thought of them trying to live in a world dominated by authoritarian dictatorships, but that’s what we’re looking at now.

And that cop out is where my main annoyance comes from. The Harris campaign did have power. They were responsible for policy and had all the data with regards the last four years. Why didn’t she make her pathway clear.

So……..I’ll ask again…….. given she had all the power, knowledge and data, what convinced you that she will make a material difference to climate policy despite not setting out a verified position? Because that’s quite important given how strong your stance is. And what impact do you think trump will have?

Yeah I think its not beyond them to change that rule, although unlikely.

Oh yeah, the Artemis Program and SpaceX will do fine, which is a small comfort.

Anyone up for a "The Expanse" future where even oxygen is commodified?
