Despite this, there was huge news coverage, and posters here saying the same thing, that Kamala will win this easily, polls are misleading etc. It'd the same as the UK one, every poll was predicting a wipe out for the incumbents but people wouldn't believe it as it's not what they wanted to hear. We take the Mick out of the Yanks for their "alternative facts", but there's huge evidence in past few pages we're no different at all. The ‘polls are misleading’ garbage is very dangerous. As you said, bookies have had his odds against for months now.
The Doctor Posted 6 November 2024 Posted 6 November 2024 ****ing hell. So, that's Ukraine sold out to Russia, Israel emboldened to continue attacking the entirety of the middle east, and domestically the end of near all minority rights...

Does Trump have the ability to change this? Wouldn’t surprise me if he tries…… Homer Simpson has a future in politics with Trump at the helm.

They were responsible for policy and had all the data with regards the last four years. Why didn’t she make her pathway clear. So……..I’ll ask again…….. given she had all the power, knowledge and data, what convinced you that she will make a material difference to climate policy despite not setting out a verified position? Because that’s quite important given how strong your stance is. And what impact do you think trump will have? ... because the Biden administration of which she was part of made numerous moves legislative and politically to address carbon emissions. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Environmental_policy_of_the_Joe_Biden_administration (Pardon the wiki link, but it's all there.) So yes, I think it's a safe assumption that she would continue on that work. If that's not clear to you from her words and actions, fair enough. On the other hand, the policy decisions of Trump in his first term regarding fossil fuel extraction and burning, combined with his pledges this time round, show rather clearly he intends a policy that will not address carbon emissions and vastly contribute to ongoing global average temperature increase. That increase will have global consequences, in money and in life. If you think he "won't be that bad", then again, fair enough - I hope you're right, for the sake of a great many people and civilisation itself.

If he controls the Senate and House as well as having his yes men on the Supreme Court, he could change anything in theory. The two term limit of a president would be the first to go though you’d wager.
Jon the Hat Posted 6 November 2024 Posted 6 November 2024 Hopefully his commitment to deliver on his promises will be as effective as getting Mexico to pay for the half-built wall.

Not to say there wouldn't be an election in 2028 but it would be an election in the same way North Korea has elections. 1
HighPeakFox Posted 6 November 2024 Posted 6 November 2024 I suspect that what's left of their democracy will now be dismantled, or at the very least rigged to the point of impossibility. 1

It it would need a constitutional amendment to change it, but with Trump in charge I’m not sure the constitution will matter too much. And I’m not sure that the word ‘ability’ applies where Trump is concerned. 1
EastAnglianFox Posted 6 November 2024 Posted 6 November 2024 He did some good things in his last tenure though, right?
Popular Post Jon the Hat Posted 6 November 2024 Popular Post Posted 6 November 2024 Calm down people, some rather overblown reactions on here already. Its like the match thread! 2 3

I seriously doubt it
Pliskin Posted 6 November 2024 Posted 6 November 2024 @Jon the Hat this is clearly another tactical oversight by Cooper….. 1

Cadno'r Cymoedd Posted 6 November 2024 Posted 6 November 2024 A very dark day indeed. They just elected a corrupt convicted rapist, felon, con man and grifter who tried to overthrow the country when he lost. Still, at least it wasn't a black woman, eh? Thick, ill educated rednecks. 1 1
Otis Posted 6 November 2024 Posted 6 November 2024 Thoughts are currently with David Lammy & Leicsmac.

Hey, don't worry about me, I'm a white guy in a nation currently not affected much by climate change (though talk to some farmers about that). I'm not the one in the firing line, it's just unfortunate that people don't consider those that will be. 3
