I remember Martin O'Neill saying after a particularly bad match (when our players had been totally inept at doing the simplest task, like passing the ball to someone in the same coloured shirt) ... "I didn't ask them to play like that!".

At half time yesterday, I don't suppose Cooper said "right lads, I want you to change how you're playing.  Stop winning tackles, stop picking up the 2nd balls, don't track their players, and whatever you do, stop passing the ball to your team mates."

But that's what appeared to happen.   At some point, the players have got to individually and collectively do the basics right.   There's too much blaming the manager/coach for everything.

Good point, clearly a coincidence that the whole dynamic of the game changes after Cooper gets 15 minutes to talk to the players.

Yes.  In the same way it was a coincidence that the dynamic of the Tottenham and Everton home games changed after half time.

The more I'm watching this I keep saying to ayew to run and put the effort in (looks to me that he's just jogging) as he could of possibly got on the end of it and got a tap in. Or possibly be me just being too critical

To paraphrase, "there are lies, damn lies and data"

Thank goodness data predicts nothing in a chaotic system (yet) or else why bother watching if the results are already known?

Of course it does.  It predicts all kinds of things, hence the saying "there are no poor bookmakers".  What it doesn't do is guarantee anything.

Would rather Jamie had just tucked it away to be honest.

I assume you think he didn't get chance to talk to them before the game and the first half?

I wouldn't be that critical of him given it's Vardy who is through on goal, but your point is a valid one. Under Maresca not only did five men attack the box, but many of them got to the goal line so that if the keeper spilled it, they could pick up the second ball and score. So yes even in this system, I would encourage not just Ayew but in this clip Mavididi and even Buonanotte to box crash too.

All that said, let's be honest, Vardy has to put that away, I feel like body language of Mavididi and Buonanotte is that they are expecting him to do so, he's probably doing it all week in training!

^ Another great team move!

  • Mads patient to bait the press and uses his CBs to get out keeping the ball
  • Mavididi cool and calm under pressure.
  • Okoli with a superb line-breaking pass to open up the game. High risk but high reward.
  • Ndidi, Faes and JJ play good first time passes to keep the move flowing.
  • Buonanotte with a good progressive carry and a superb pass to Vardy who should score!

Only one bad thing about this move and that was the finish!

This was reminscent of last season and was good football. Cooper is frustrating because we ARE capable of playing like this. But we aren't brave enough to try it more often. But credit where it's due, this was great to watch!

Enzo was playing a team who were favourites to go up and had the most talent in the division, its a lot easier to commit bodies forward in that situation.

We also often were so lumbered in getting the ball forward its easier to have forward players already up there in that situation.  The few fast counters I remembered were usually 3 forward players.

I agree, but why is this do you think?

Is it the style of football atm, VAR?

A realisation that a trophy is now a pipe dream unless you are a greedy six supporter?

Could it be that now fans are more and more concerning themselves - i.e. worried - about the financial aspect of the game and how it affects their club such as being forced into selling their best home grown talent?

I guess all of these bring a disconnect but l dont know.

People are a lot more self-conscious it seems. Perhaps not as drunk because booze is so expensive! Communal singing just isn't a thing in schools, churches, unions, etc so that confidence to to project voice just isn't there. Singing together is a learned behaviour. Sitting down individually means you don't feel physically connected to the person pushing alongside you. Would love to see an actual study on this! There's also an anecdoatal assumption that things used to be 'better'. Attempts at addressing some of the above (communal singing, standing shoulder to shoulder, songbooks, a choir lead type person, etc) are usually met with ambivalence even ridicule. Can't win.

By all accounts the first half was solid, we managed to have 5 shots to their 6, so I'd say the message was to show some bravery in the first half. Second half we had 1 shot to their 11...

What do you think the half time message might have been?

Why would he change a/the message you think he gave before the game 45 +later, especially if it was working? Maybe he didn't?

Bet you’re great to have a beer with. The support for your club is exemplary, are you stuck in the early Rodgers era or do you need a reality check that we are trying to stay up as one of the weaker squads in the league. Do you think we are going to turn into Barcelona with a new coach?

No I’m totally with you.

In the position we’re in, there isn’t a manager on the face of the planet that would be able to come here and keep

us up playing any better football than Super Coops and his amazing bionic blue boys.

are you willing to o consider the possibility that he's a bit cowardly as a manager, and decided that the 1-0 lead was to be defended, not extended?

In Cooper's post match interview on the BBC, he said something along the lines of ...

"the 1st half was decent.  At half time we told them to keep doing what they were doing, and look for the 2nd goal.  Bournemouth were losing, and obviously gambled a bit in the 2nd half, pushed more players up, got it forward faster.   And in those instances it's almost human nature to drop a bit deeper.  But we defended well, when we had to."

Like everyone else I am not party to any team talks, though some seem to know exactly what was said, it appears. One minute the players can't stand him, the next they obey his every command. Which is it I wonder. 😂

Anyone else still baffled at the hundreds of 'FANS' tripping over themselves to leave at 80 minutes?!

Winning 1-0 in tight match, in what could / was our first win of the season!! All so they could get home in time to watch Strictly... Simply embarrassing to be honest.

Surely people buy tickets with the intention to watch a football match for the intended 90 minutes?!

Sometimes I can very reluctantly understand if we are losing by 3 or 4, but when were winning (especially by a small margin) it really does astonish me.... Appalling behaviour.

But you've got to "BEAT THE TRAFFIC". !!!    It's a sport that's always been around, but now it seems to have been elevated to mass-participation.

Each to their own I suppose, and all that, but it's fckin weird when so many join in.

Do they watch it on the concourse telly's or something ? Mrs Spud was as bemused as I was seeing them streaming down the steps. It's not just our crowd though more one of those unexplainable phenonenum of modern football. Depressing.
