if he has indeed got a clause in his contract, i don't know why he doesn't just make an agreement with the club to leave early

I've thought this, however, if he was placed on gardening leave pre relegation, and then we used a post relegation clause to release him from contract, could he then potentially take action to say we would have stayed up had he not been placed on gardening leave?

Obviously, we will go down, but imagine it's far less of a legal headache if we wait for relegation before getting rid and just keep him in charge until then.

I'm actually hoping we get relegated ASAP rather than it just hanging over us.

Contracts and Lawyers. Worst thing that could happen is we win a few games and there are rumours that Man CIty might get their mighty deduction.

surely Ruud knows we aren't winning anything and as for man city, we were supposed to know by now wasn't we?

Unfortunately, if there is a relegation clause, it won't be triggered until survival becomes mathematically impossible. It is still technically possible for us to survive from an employment law perspective.

Judging from his reported press conference comments, it sounds like he's gone back to saying he's committed to staying next season. He says he wants talks with the club soon to sort it out, which suggests that nobody has told him he's leaving. This would back up what the Dutch journalist was saying on the radio a few days ago...

The club will not release him until we are confirmed relegated. When this happens he will go and an interim will be brought in. The only way he goes before if he walks.

don’t rule out Jamie Vardy having some involvement in the interim.

Unthinkable, but maybe he is playing his hand hoping to force the clubs hand by keep reinforcing his position next season.

He certainly gets over these defeats quick.

Surely he'd get less of a payoff if he were to leave by mutual consent as well.

If he's called into the office at the end of the season/after relegation is confirmed, he can try to dig in his heels and say he won't leave without a bumper severance payment.

It's only unthinkable if you assume Top is fully engaged and highly motivated to sort the mess out. I'm starting to wonder whether this is actually the case.

He will have to play the PR game and maintain a certain amount of professionalism in the public domain and in press conferences, if he comes out all guns blazing saying he is a gone once we are relegated etc then he will be in potential breach of contract and he will want to protect whatever agreed severance payment.

what is said in press conferences and what is actually happening are often two very different things. I wouldn’t take anything said about his future being a genuine hint he might stay. He can’t come out and say I am a goner as soon as we are down.

I don’t want to walk away from anything, and that’s happening now.

“I do my job. I’m committed to working with the players, the club, to fight through this. To show we want to and we can break this cycle. I’m doing my job as long as I’m needed.”

This last sentence suggests he knows he's on borrowed time.

I really think he'd want to stay, as has been said on one of the podcasts, the only way he claws back some reputation is by winning games with us in the championship, if the clubs has anything about it, it'll be contacting managers and drawing up a plan already

Really starting to regret buying all those black cashmere roll neck jumpers.

Tell me about it, I opened an etsy store trying to sell them, but never really got going. Not sure why.

If he is still here next season it has to be the worse decision ever made by the club EVER

Playing a complete devils advocate here, but he might actually be better suited to a more dominant team.

He certainly did alright with psv and Man U did look bright. Could be one that simply needs a team who will consist of the better players for his ideas to work at all.

I don’t for one minute believe he thinks the teams he’s been putting out recently are the best, I think he’s been protesting since Brentford, if not before that.

Hes been utterly woeful if not the worst we’ve ever had. But who knows how he’d be in a better set up… he really should have taken the Coventry job tbh

The worst manager manager in club history lives to fight another day.

Yay.

Same team please Ruud, let's get this relegation confirmed ASAP.
