It depends on how the rules are interpreted. Either £83m or £105m. There's a strong argument that we're OK for the latter, which probably saves us if true.

Yeah sorry I mean how close to that are we? Pretty sure we lost like 100m each in 21/22 and 22/23 so we must have had to make a tidy profit in 23/24 to get over the line, no? Not sure we would have.

If true the atmosphere on Wednesday will be interesting

If there was any protest against the premier league or chants or tifos or banners it would get censored or muted by the media and premier league overlords anyway

Seen this but do they announce the points deduction upfront? And, if it is around 12m over, that should mean a 2 points deduction based on Everton’s punishment right?

It'll be relegation if it's more than 2.

He doesn't know any more than we do. No deductions are being announced tomorrow, and precedent suggests any more than a 4 point deduction is unlikely anyway.

The PL don’t decide the punishment. They only refer to an independent panel.

be surprised if anyone else gets a points deduction tbf

It’s an odd one.

Chelsea have been selling hotels, the women’s team etc.

We don’t know if we’ve done any dodgy dealings in the background with asset transfer / sales either. We typically don’t announce it. We’ve got shares which we could cash in.

Everton, Forest, Newcastle and Manchester United are the others how potentially “might” I’d imagine.

SwissRamble had us at £95m so very much right between the two

Nothing seems to have changed from what I can see. No credible sources linking us to the deduction; in fact, Keiran Maguire has presented an argument that suggesting we might be OK in recent days.

What did he say?

The rules are a mess and from previous attempts at applying them; I don’t know what we are expecting. I’m assuming they’ve thrown that number out for click bait.

Exactly, and BTG have changed their tune now saying we won’t know the punishment!

I guess we’re going to get this kind of unhelpful speculation until the announcement.

include Villa in that one, pretty sure they was like a day or something from breaking it too(in summer) why they flogged Luiz reasonably quickly

tbf we should have sold the womens team, the womens training ground and the land they own next to the ground to ourselves since Chelsea got away with it

Am I right that in the FY in question we have logged the sales of Barnes for £35m, KDH for £30m, Castagne for £15m, and brought in £10m for Enzo, and we've still potentially contrived to breach the threshold? Jeez, what more are we meant to do?! Meantime, Chelsea "sell" their own hotel to themselves and can carry on spending £0.5bn per year.

The Premier League has been lucky so far that neither of the two clubs who have had points deduction have suffered significant losses because of the points deductions; if either Forest or Everton had been relegated by a margin of less than the points deduction given, they could argue to the EFL that they would have survived on sporting merit and the only reason they got relegated was because of the punishment.

It could make for an interesting test case if it ever happens- at either end of the table. Say Forest or Newcastle get a deduction and miss out on UCL football, with the huge financial implications that carries with it, could they potentially bring an action against the Premier League if they were to be charged in a subsequent window?

Isn't maddison included in this financial year as well?

The issue with selling stuff, is that it’s not sustainable.

We’ll dodge the bullet once, however what do we sell next season?

To live by the inconsistent rules which doesn’t allow us to pour money if that’s what we choose to do.

What they are actually doing is shooting themselves in the foot and killing their own league.

The other legal challenge I’m waiting on, is if these charges relegate a club. Will they raise a counter charge back to the Premier League to argue against the length of time it’s taking to review the Manchester City situation.

Swiss Ramble puts us at £95m loss over the period with a tidy profit last season, I believe. That's fine if we're allowed to lose £105m, as the letter of the rules imply, but not if the £83m ruling applies.

But even if it is 83, they can't justify -6 when Everton's was more? Or have I remembered wrong?
