Really really really getting behind the lads

*Disclaimer* "Getting behind the lads" may not actually involve making any noise at all during the game, duration of support may terminate after 70-80 minutes of gameplay, to "beat the traffic".

  1. 'It's pure passion what you see around you' - Van Nistelrooypublished at 09:36

Leicester boss Ruud van Nistelrooy believes fans are showing "pure passion" amid recent protests.

A section of supporters held a protest march against the Foxes' hierarchy before the recent home defeat by Arsenal.

Director of football Jon Rudkin has come under increasing pressure from fans with the club sitting second from bottom in the table after winning only four of their 25 Premier League games this season.

Foxes chairman Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha called for fans to unite behind the team in his programme notes before the game against the Gunners, but Van Nistelrooy does not feel the protests impacted the team and believes there is still enough support for his players.

"I do. I think it's pure passion what you see around you," the Dutchman said before Friday's home game against Brentford.

"Passion for the football club to do better and that is a great thing to see and to feel and to represent that.

"I feel in the Arsenal game we were supported really well. I didn't hear any negativity. The fans were all behind the team.

"We all suffered, off and on the pitch with those late goals. The protest, I haven't really seen that because we were already in the stadium preparing for the game.

"So the supporters did that separate from us. So that helped. We were focusing on the game and when we went out there was nothing visible about that and that felt like great support."

I like that Ruud

You can tell he supports it from his comments. Also it rubbishes the argument from those defending the club that protests against the running of the club means not supporting the team. Clearly the team and management are not bothered.

Like Maresca. They have been subject to cultures where the fans have that culture.

There's an awful lot to like about the bloke, just a shame he won't change a thing on the pitch

You do wonder as well if this will mean the club appoint genuine yes men in the future.

I'm glad he is saying this but he will go at some point. We'll still be here dealing with the next tenure.

Probably. We just need to wait it out unfortunately. And I don’t mean that passively, I agree with fans having a voice and holding the club accountable. We can speed reform up the same way those rimming the club for everything they do slow it down.

At some point, Top will either make change or sell up and go. The longer it goes on, the further we fall and will become not financially viable for him. But we will still have a club to support.

It is a case of how many managers we go through before then and how far we do dip.

We may come back up next season but it’s a damn sight less likely than it was the last time.

I don’t think they are that well positioned to be aware of that sort of stuff. The last few managers have been agent referrals and rhey fish references from people they know. Bit of an echo chamber

You are right, the bloke is a winner. You don’t have the career he had as a footballer without demanding high standards from yourself and those around you. Whether he is good enough to be a real top flight manager is yet to be seen but you can tell he wants to be successful and understands why fans are concerned.

This is partly the reason why I want him to stick around even in the event of a relegation.

Instil the standards at the club, and do so off the pitch as much as possible, so that if we get promoted we act in a much more sensible manner to be prepared for the next PL season.

The club at the moment just lacks all manner of sensibility and standards and discipline. The structure appears fractured and ultimately it shouldn't really be the manager to sort shit out above him.

The other part of me hopes he does find it within him to back down from a formation that doesn't work and at least try something different...

We are playing better. We've had to rid Cooper ball out of the team.

Im probably an ostrich,  but i think Ndidi has made a massive difference and if we can click up front that will make a massive difference. With Ndidi back, he can risk Facundo, but think we probably still need Ayew over Mvadidi.

Yes, Ndidi back is key. I noticed some good phases of play against Arsenal to be fair, good link up between him, Vardy, Soumare but then we lose pace and creativity in the final third beyond that.

I think it was against Man Utd in the cup where we really shone and we could see how he's making some changes. The lack of depth kills us though as we tire after about 70ish mins chasing a goal or chasing the game...

I would argue that we don't know how good he actually is. He was only able to spend 47p in the transfer window due to the chronic mismanagement of his predecessor and the board who appointed him, and he has had key players like Ricardo, Ndidi, Hermansen and Fatawu injured for all or part of his time here so far.

I honestly wouldn't be surprised to see him go elsewhere and be very successful.

Yes I'm not saying he is necessarily bad, but I'm gutted he isn't good enough to have got a tune out of us as I really like him.

He's looking for long term tenure

Ruud van Nistelrooy hints at Leicester City 'dream' as Thomas Frank sets example
Only two managers in the top four divisions of English football have been in their posts longer than Thomas Frank has with Brentford, Friday's visitors to the King Power Stadium

Thomas Frank is living the “dream” at Brentford with Ruud van Nistelrooy hinting he would like a similarly long tenure at Leicester City.

Frank, the visiting boss to the King Power Stadium on Friday, has been in charge of the Bees for more than six years and is the third-longest-serving manager in England’s top four divisions.

That kind of longevity with a side is what van Nistelrooy aspires to. So far in his senior managerial career, he spent less than a year at PSV Eindhoven before walking out over a lack of support from the board, had four games as interim Manchester United boss, and is now nearing the three-month mark in charge of City.

“That’s the dream for a manager to be able to think in those long terms,” he said ahead of Brentford’s visit.

“It’s an example where somebody starts a job with a clear idea from him within the club, and then building and setting those standards and recruiting.

“I believe he’s done an excellent job, together with the people at Brentford. In that sense, it’s an example.”

While van Nistelrooy has a contract to 2027 at City and has ruled out walking away over the club’s lack of transfer business, managing the club beyond this season may be dependent on their Premier League survival.

So far, the Dutchman has taken just seven points from 12 games in charge, leaving City two points adrift of safety.

“Very clinically, when you look at points, I expected more results, more points,” van Nistelrooy said, assessing his first dozen league matches.

“If we look at development and doing everything possible with what we have, there is development and that’s the glass half full.

“I believe what’s remaining is there to attack and to make sure that we’re getting those points that I felt we missed.

“I look at games that we should have taken points, and we didn’t, so we’re looking to do that over the next three months.”

It's so frustrating he isn't a better manager.

Harsh. We’ve really no idea what his capabilities are. Judgements are made based on things we see like substitutions but the reality is surely that Klopp, Pep & Ferguson would all struggle with this board & this group of players?

I’m in. Hope he stays for next season

It's not and I clarified above. I am not suggesting he is a bad manager, I'm just saying it's a shame he isn't better. I think suggesting that Klopp or Pep wouldn't get more points than we have achieved under Ruud is frankly a bit insulting to their careers and achievements. You even imply Ruud's substitutions aren't great.

We are almost definitely going to get relegated and that will probably be enough for him to be dismissed. That is disappointing to me as I would like to see him here for longer (unless he is proven to actually be shit), but he won't get the time.

@ProjectReset Any movements planned for tomorrow ?

He said he wasn't going to log back it after last Saturday. So it's down to us to keep it going. Wear yellow away shirts, Silva chant on 14 minutes. Not sure if there's anymore banners planned...............

How on earth can we be defending these performances.

He's worse than Cooper but because he was a good player all is forgiven and he's been dealt a bad hand.

Such terrible double standards.

It isn't personal but objectively he's a bad manager, no where near Premier league level. Needs sacking asap or we are going down.

Its the same every week.
