It will be interesting to see what kind of agreement the UK and US have come to regarding those tariffs.

They will probably negotiate that we have to accept American chlorinated chicken or the like, honestly our politicians are absolutely cr£p at negotiations. Always operating from a position of weakness instead of a position of strength.

I hope you're wrong, but I guess we'll find out in due course.

Word is that it will be pretty meh

hopefully a sig reduction in cars and steel tariffs

the rest probs lots of smoke and mirrors

the politics will be more significant

wonder if we’re beginning to see a period where the us administration puts humpty back together having smashed him into many pieces in the first few months.  The point being that humpty put together is a better humpty for them than before and they’ll demand lots of sycophancy for being the arsonist and then turning up with a fire hose ……

Pretty much.

And it's rather depressing how many people will fall for that.

The more I think about it, Ukraine attacking a ‘defeat of the Nazi’s’ victory parade when they’ve had allegations of big neo Nazi movements in Ukraine, would be a terrible decision for Zelenskyy and co to make. As funny as it would be.

Also looks like they’re generally adhering the Putin’s pathetic ceasefire too.

US will come out better off as with our additional 10% tariff Trump moved the starting point before discussions even started.

Technically speaking Grimes is right.

Never thought I’d actually say that.

They have used the opportunity to launch hundreds of long range drones into Russia. I think they have taken advantage of most of the anti-air defence being moved to Moscow to go for war infrastructure around the country.

Russia claimed to have shot down over 500 drones in a single night the other day.

I don't think there is a ceasefire on either side at the moment. Plus the last thing Ukraine needs is a foreign PM being killed in a drone strike.

Wonder what the late night demand made by trump last night was on the ‘deal ‘.

as expected, it’s not much of a big deal - 100k cars can be exported at 10% tarrif (I/o 25%) and steel/aluminium will be tariff free (assume this will apply to certain qualities of steel that the us needs and doesn’t make).

most of the deal will no doubt just address the nonsense consequences of what had been decided a few weeks ago by trump.   An example of this is RR jet engines now being tariff free into the USA in order to be fitted to Boeing jets exported out of the USA.

These aren't huge numbers at a national level but will make a big difference for particular places reliant on big autmotive employers. I was at an event a couple of weeks ago where representatives from Jaguar Land Rover were talking about the huge impact of tarriffs on the Ellesmere Port site and potential for job losses. As you say Rolls Royce will benefit which given their importance to the local economy in Derby is very important for that (admittedly poxy and home to an awful football club) town.

He got 49% of the vote.

Any excuse to remind folk of when Darren 'Cllr Craftywank' Grimes was part of one of the funniest Twitter interactions ever.

I like it how they hung the rug out to dry as soon as new Popey had done his speech.

Nothing like getting back to normal and sorting the washing out.
