Preparing us to cope with a transfer embargo well in advance.

This is such a Foxestalk thread.

Close the forum. There’s nothing more to discuss. It’s pointless us all being here.

Fold the club. If we’re not going to blow a load of cash on some overpriced duffers in the transfer window then what’s the point of the club even existing?

Fold the league. It’s not worth it anymore. It’s all just rubbish.

Abolish football. Just merge it in with rugby and be done with it. The game’s in a mess and it’s too far gone.

Do away with all human sport and leisure activities. It doesn’t achieve anything. What’s the point of it all?

End humanity. We’re obviously failing as a species so there’s no point carrying on.

Agree - if you don't like a thread of section of the forum don't go on it, no-one has a gun to your head.

We all love LCFC but the key to a more peaceful life is not to make it your entire personality and let it take over your life!

Actually these all seem quite reasonable and measured reactions to our current situation

Most clubs go mad in the market before their embargo’s so that they can get by. see man city and Chelsea.

Our only action was to sell a proven player in the position we are going to be desperate for.

This whole thread is a waste of time. Maybe reopen it when we have a new boardroom.  Totally incompetent and ruining our club.  It's the hope that kills you so this is a waste of space.

The board & club gave up on the 1st Jan & just kept us hanging on till the 3rd Feb, close it.

As I said on another transfer thread:

Don’t know why we do these things to ourselves……….?

So in July/Aug 24, was the thread who do we need………and we came up with………

Jordan Ayew

BDCR

odsonne Edouard

Oliver Skipp, tell you what, let’s pay £20m for him

So every common sense suggestion doesn’t get anywhere close to the quality that the LCFC brains & money trust come up with. EVERY time

We have no idea what they as a group expect to achieve over the next 18-24 months AND they said they aren't getting rid of Ruud coz they can't afford to.

As many have said, we aren't getting a transfer embargo! We haven't broke the rules for 23-24.

We aren't going to be desperate for Tom Cannon at all either. Getting £10m for him was good business.

We rightly decided not to waste more money on players that wouldn't have improved our starting 11. Any money we have available, would be put to better use in the summer. If we'd spent what people wanted on here, we could well have ended up with a transfer embargo at some point next season.

I don't think it's really the board's role to give us a running commentary on how any transfer negotiations are going, just so people on Foxestalk don't keep getting their knickers in a twist.

I wouldn't trust all of the 'common sense' suggestions on here either.

Is that after we wasted a lot of money on Skipp, Edouard and to a lesser extent BCDR & Ayew, it was a horrendous window, get that 2/3's right and we might stay up, the only find was Bilal, 3 of those and we have a real chance.  We decided to place our faith in a 38yo striker & the back 4 that took us down last time & isn't fit for this level.

In terms of embargo, as Forest have proved, better to stay up and be in it, than down and battling the super competitive league & slog that is the Championship with no promotion guarantees.

Different opinions, I would have gambled in Jan, not big we couldn't as we wasted it all last Summer, but certainly something at centre half & a winger or striker & blown Edouard out.

Its gone now, we will be super lucky to stay up now, this manager isn't fit for a relegation battle AND the players aren't good enough as a squad for this level, I was at Everton, it was all there, along with Palace, Wolves & Fulham.  They have to find some way to stop the ball going in the net & they can't.

Tottenham was an aberration, they were worse than us, much as it was enjoyable to be there after being at the 6-2 last time out.

Oh I’ve not heard that one before. Very original 👍

Thanks. Much appreciated

If anything the January transfer window was irrelevant. The real damage had already been done in the summer window.

The winter window is always notoriously difficult to do business in, but you have a chance if you’re building on the previous window. If anything we needed to undo the mistakes of the previous window whilst trying to add quality that would make a difference to the first team. Always a long shot.

I don’t think Ayew and BDCR were mistakes. I think they are perfectly good squad players for very little outlay.
The trouble was our best player getting injured for the season, meaning Ayew had to start more matches.
Skipp and Okoli so far haven’t worked out. El Khannouss looks good and Buonanotte wasn’t the worst loan signing, but his form has dipped recently.
A team like ours can’t afford to lose four key players - Fattawu, Mads, Ricardo and Ndidi for the majority of the season. We were always going to struggle to stay up, but that has made it very tough.

Ayew, BDCR, Skipp and Edouard were dreadful signings. I know this because even an amateur like me knew that they would be. At their peak they were mediocre players at established, lower to midtable, PL sides. The teams that were now letting them go.  They were never likely to make the required difference in quality at a newly promoted team.

If we’d signed younger players from the Championship or foreign leagues, who were hungry to make the step up, I’d have been more forgiving. No signing is without risk, but at least we’d be left with players with high potential in the lower league.

Instead we’ll go down with highly paid, aging, journeymen who probably won’t make the difference in the Championship and that have no resale value or future potential. BEK was the exception in a transfer window that was otherwise the dictionary definition of poor. Our performance since has been depressingly predictable

BDCR was offered a two year deal at Fulham. They wanted to keep him.
Ayew had been playing well for Palace, who are better than us.

Didn’t Ipswich sign a lot of players from the Championship that you thought we should go for? Spent a lot of money on them too. Last time I looked at the table they were behind us. They also haven’t had the injury problems we have.

Nothing to suggest we would have done any better going down that route. It’s also easy for certain people on here to chuck out random cheap players from foreign leagues we should go for. There’s certainly no guarantee most of them would have made an impact here either.

The teams that come up from the Championship only have a small chance of staying up each season now. We are where I thought we would be, especially when our best players have been injured.
