Some interesting upcoming championship free agents:

CB - Ben Wilmot, A leader who’s good on the ball with much experience.

LB - Max Lowe, just an upgrade to Thomas. Linked with him in the summer and solid going forward also.

LB - Jamal Lewis, again an upgrade to Thomas. Struggled with injuries but could be a problem as an attacking left back.

LB - Aaron Cresswell, experienced pro with vital leadership. Older player but still performing and a deadly set piece. Short term deal.

CDM - Jairo Riedewald, not a consistent starter currently but a true holding midfielder comfortable on the ball.

CDM - Tommy Doyle, he’s a leader, good on the ball and scrappy. Would be a good addition.

CDM - Andre Dozzell, Very good on the ball, has the ability to dictate play.

ST - Josh Maja, been poor as of late but we’ve had interest in the past.

ST - Ross Stewart, we’ve been crying out for a different option up front. His presence and technical ability would cause problems in L1. Scored 24 in 46 games last time he played in league 1.

ST - Lyndon Dykes, similar to Stewart gives you a different option up front. Goal return might improve in league 1.

ST - Danny Ings, short term fix but just a goal scorer.

I would be interested in adding 3-4 older free agents with leadership like Lascelles, Cresswell, Doyle (not old) in what I imagine is going to be a very young squad for us.

I would love to see several of these at the club. I was always put off Maja after seeing STID and how he left them, so maybe a player like that isn’t what we need. Ross Stewart would be a great shout at L1 though - if he could be convinced to drop down.

Max Lowe is one that most of us turned our noses up last season but is the type of personality that we need now.

Ross Stewart would be an absolutely diabolical shout. The guy has missed 130 games over the past few years, is 30 in the summer and likely still wants a decent wedge to drop down to L1

Can we tempt Conrad Logan back to the bench from Anstey Nomads. Would be better than our other recent backup keepers.

Be better than our main choice keeper, a new first team keeper is vital because Jakub is rubbish

Jamie Allen from Coventry who is out of contract from Coventry i think is worth a shot? He lives locally, and he really has a good work ethic?

I wouldn't mind grabbing a few of their players on loan aswell.

This is a good shout, and may be the type of 'experienced' player we need, alongside what is likely to be a very young team. Cov describe him as a 'workhorse', it also looks like he has played over 20 games for them this season. Coventry City told 2026 might be time for stalwart to depart - it rests on promotion to the Premier League though

Jason Kerr (Wigan's captain) has been released by them. I would look to take him on, especially if we are really clearing out players like JV, CO and are going to be short in the CB. He has good appearance numbers of the years, so could be that steady, reliable player to be fit and available most weeks.

Why have they released him? Or would he not re-sign?

He also won League 1 with them playing a more important role. A workhorse is what we need in the middle of the park. Do the dirty bits. Get the ball and give it to the play maker to start an attack.

Chaplin leaving Ipswich

Was decent 2 years ago. Also sure we were linked him him too.

Jay Rodriguez released from Wrexham. Never been prolific I know, but surely could do a job in league one, if only as an experienced squad player coming off the bench, with another new forward starting and a youngster alongside Rodriguez on the bench.

Chaplin would be a great player to get, 29 years old, has done very well at league one level and had a pretty good season as championship level when Ipswich first went up.

think he'll go to a championship team though

Wrexham's sloppy seconds? Nah you're alright.

this is an ideal signing of where we are right now. we need to rebuild and these sort of players are the exact type we need
