filbertway Posted 21 December 2005 Posted 21 December 2005 Ive been thinking, we seem to dominate most matches and have the most shots set pieces etc. So what if craig managed to get in a good striker who will put away 50% of his chances. I reckon we would soon start shooting up the league and everyone would be happy and behind levein. Games like crewe for e.g we would have won i think with a goal scoring striker to partner hume, if we just had that cutting edge in the last 3rd i think we would be so much higher in the league. Annyone for joey as striker , maye not
Matt Posted 21 December 2005 Posted 21 December 2005 If we got a good striker he would have to be scoring 3 or 4 goals in a game I think, and many strikers would be struggling to do that. The reason he would have to be scoring 3 or 4 goals? Because our defence concede as many as we score, At the moment to win game we need to be scoring 3 or 4 goals, IMO its not just a good striker we need!
MC Prussian Posted 21 December 2005 Posted 21 December 2005 Theoretically, yes. Practically, no. Unless we improve the way Palace did two years ago.

I think our defence isn't that bad when weve got the good players out, i think weve missed paddy badly but when he's back i think that we will start kepping the goals against to 0's and 1's
Matt Posted 21 December 2005 Posted 21 December 2005 I think our defence isn't that bad when weve got the good players out, i think weve missed paddy badly but when he's back i think that we will start kepping the goals against to 0's and 1's True but we have a small squad and with suspensions/injurys we can't afford to be relying on certain players, and to be honest this team is struggling in the Championship, but yet people still think we will make the play-offs...now let me ask the question - We are stuggling now, Say we do get a striker that will score goals, Say we do make a late surge to the play-offs and a mircle does happen and we actually get promoted, Would we not struggle in the premiership just a little bit? However I have been saying for the past year for a few years I wouldn't mind keep yoyoing for a few years, because that would produce a lot of money for us, we save that money for a few years and the clubs abit richer...There's the plan, doubt it'd work though I have always said Division 1/Championship is a tougher league than the Premiership, and I have always said if Man Utd, Arsenal, Chelsea did amazing get relegated they would struggle but the Premiership is more skiller but the Championship is more tougher and rougher league - Man Utd, Arsenal, Chelsea players would be go on the deck and getting nothing for it!
Dr The Singh Posted 21 December 2005 Posted 21 December 2005 No!!! There's not much between the teams in this division, the top teams are those which have that little extra!! City are a improving team, and are capable of beating anyone in this division but are also capable of losing to anyone. We require alittle more quality and alot more consistency, especially in front of goal. Maybe next season!!!

(in my best VP voice) How many teams do you know score 3 or 4 goals a game? I know I shouldn't take you literaly but 3 or 4 goals a game is not the answer to our problems, being able to finish games off on the other hand is. We have a team that has dominated the majority of games this season and got sod all to show for it.
Anish Posted 21 December 2005 Posted 21 December 2005 Absolutely no f**king chance. Get real. Not under Levein. Not this season anyway.
adam Posted 21 December 2005 Posted 21 December 2005 No chance. bloody hell? Theres much more chance of us going down
Foxes_Wizard_Striker Posted 21 December 2005 Posted 21 December 2005 Nah we can but we need a miracle seriously I rather if we stay up this season then next season we domanite the Championship and get promoted comfortably this way we can stay up in Premiership more easisly because we have more time to breed coindifence, signing new players to etbalsih us in Premiership
Leicester_Mad Posted 21 December 2005 Posted 21 December 2005 Simply no. Do we want to go up this season? Again simply no
Guest Posted 21 December 2005 Posted 21 December 2005 Theoretically, yes. Practically, no. Unless we improve the way Palace did two years ago. That was going to be my answer!
Anish Posted 21 December 2005 Posted 21 December 2005 Simply no. Do we want to go up this season? Again simply no Yes, we do want to go up! I don't care if we come straight back down. Going up will do more good than sticking in this division hoping that next season will be hunky-dory (like we all thought this season would be much better than last).
Mark Posted 21 December 2005 Posted 21 December 2005 Always a slight chance, Crystal Palace shown that a few seasons ago, but i can't see us doing the same even though our squad is as good as anyones in this division, Readings and Sheff Utd's included. I really want this team and Levein to succeed but it's more in hope now than expectancy. I was looking at Readings squad earlier and there isn't much quality there at all. They've Chris Makin in defence FFS! They're all just average Championship players, most have been for years, with a couple of potential Premiership players like Steve Sidwell. If we play to our potential we can comfortably beat them on the 28th like we did Sheffield United.
Thracian Posted 21 December 2005 Posted 21 December 2005 I'd rather be thinking that way than whittling with the gloom mongers about relegation.

We have a team that has dominated the majority of games this season and got sod all to show for it. Exactly that what I was saying - We can't score 3 or 4 goals even if we had a decent striker and we can't finish games off, At the moment we need to be scoring 3 or 4 goals to be winning games something as you said most teams can't manage to do consistanly let alone Leicester...We're focked at the moment basically!
The People's Hero Posted 21 December 2005 Posted 21 December 2005 We could make the playoffs if we got good results between now and the end of the season. It's not inconceivable. The current set up though is geared towards playing well for little reward. So probably not. Bring back Brian Little.
MC Prussian Posted 21 December 2005 Posted 21 December 2005 That was going to be my answer! Beat you to it.
Bert Posted 21 December 2005 Posted 21 December 2005 It's not impossible but it is not going to happen, if we are failing to win games against teams like Crewe and Burnley, then what hope have we got?
Ultra Posted 21 December 2005 Posted 21 December 2005 Let's do the maths, shall we? In order to reach the top 6, we'll probably need a total of around 75 points. That would mean notching up a massive FIFTY points from our next 23 games, ie DOUBLE the number of points we managed during the first half of the season. I don't believe even the most ardent admirers of the current management would argue for one moment that this figure is achievable. So in answer to the question, the play offs may be mathematically within reach, but in the real world they are extremely remote.

I didn't imagine you'd give an uplifting response but you make your point in convincing black and white and it is undoubtedly a realistic one. Thank God football is forever about the unlikely, the extraordinary, the inexplicable and occasionally the near miraculous. You could say we have 19 points maximum to lose in 23 games - perhaps it doesn't sound so bad that way. In fact, while logic says you are undoubtedly right to be pessmistic, I'm tempted to have a bet. Stranger things HAVE happened. They usually make massive headlines but they have happened - I think!!!
Cobbo Posted 22 December 2005 Posted 22 December 2005 I always like to hope we can sneak in there to make the season have a kind of goal to aim for...realistically I doubt it very much but I still hope. Tis boring when there is no aim (and it can't be avoiding relegation cos that's just wrong )
