Think a more aggressive pressing style would really suit us in the Champ too. Last time we went with the refined approach, which very nearly got found out, but with some added aggression we could really bully that league.

Yep I remember you mentioning him and I was alongside you there. I love the Red Bull system that Rangnick pioneered which is why I've often said the club should go all out to offer Rangnick anything he wants to become DOF, I also still quite like Hassenhuttl despite the disappointments at Southampton and he's done a decent job turning around Wolfsburg who were going down before he arrived and are now 6 points from Europe albeit in a very tight mid table. Marco Rose was also on my list when Rodgers left, as was Adi Hutter and Roger Schmidt (I would love to see us contact Schmidt in summer as he's taking a break for the rest of the season, I think he's above our level though), Kovac was a manager multiple people mentioned here over the last few years.
The Red Bull network just constantly produces talent on and off the pitch and has one of the best scouting networks in the world, and with Jurgen Klopp now "Head of Global Soccer" there the sad thing is, right now, I would happily take Red Bull as owners. I genuinely believe that network would see us return to the top half of the premier league.

Sorry, went off on a bit of a tangent there! lol

No worries, completely agree with everything you’ve said mate.

Many on here have mentioned those bunch of names over the years, unfortunately we now find ourselves back in a position where they’ve become unrealistic again.

Schmidt was linked with the Leicester job ages ago, of possibilities last summer, he would’ve been right near the top of the list for me. We missed the boat on Hutter during his Bundesliga period.

If you want a more intense pressing style, it might be a tad early for him, but I’d consider John Mousinho at Pompey.

Statistically 3rd in the Championship for PPDA, while he has also shown he can be flexible in terms of styles.

Danny Rohl is going to Southampton and we're going to end up with dishy Russell Martin and we're all going to find it absolutely hilarious.

Nothing more KPFC and Rudkin the stable boy than shit Southampton rejects.

Lampard is an interesting one, did well at Derby, great job at Chelsea first time around under a difficult embargo, 2nd time around an obvious disaster, by that point the club was a circus. Everton job didn't really work out, then goes to coventry and has barely put a foot wrong. Massively intelligent guy and not afraid to step down and work his way up. Not sure I'd want him next season if he was a possibility but he's a manager I like.

I haven't seen much about Mousinho but will have a look at him later!

Alex Crook just said they're impressed with Lampard as well so let's hope!

If you were a football club would you put out PR indicating you were interested in 3 or 4 managers? Or would you let Danny Rohl name his price lol

We love an ITK... the rest of them got killed off lol

I doubt either us or Southampton will make a quick appointment to be honest as it'll just start the new manager off on the wrong foot. They'll lose most if not all of their remaining games, confidence will sink even further and the advantage of the fresh start in the summer will be lost.

Rudkin should be nowhere near the club in any capacity, he's so far out of his depth. Doing this would just create even more problems.

They aren't going to sack him, he will be move sideways at best.

A Klopp-style role overseeing us and Leuven wouldn't surprise me.

There is no point building a side which plays slow possession football against side who have better players.

You can play good football, but with power and pace.

Power and pace is where the game is right now.

I have to be honest and say that I dislike Lampard about as strongly as I'm capable of disliking anyone, save for murderers, tyrants and sex offenders. I have to lay that down before I say anything else because I'm probably incapable of being balanced about the guy.

I also think he tends to do very well until those who work with him start to clock just how thoroughly obnoxious he is.

Of course, I'll grant you that he's a bright bloke. And yes, he did well at Derby (though not quite as well as Rowett the season before) - early in the season especially. He blew the play-offs by committing the schoolboy error of celebrating the semis as if he'd just won the league, but nobody is perfect. He also started well in his first stint at Chelsea, at Everton, and right now with Cov.

But the less said about his success over a longer period of time, and the state he leaves clubs in, the better. Results dip after 4-6 months. Recruitment is poor, unless it's a Chelsea loanee. Discipline isn't his strongpoint.

Bearing in mind short-termism, ill discipline, poor recruitment and a fixation with 'football played the right way' have been significant factors in our undoing, I'd really give that one a wide berth. Every bit as wide a berth as Russell Martin, in fact. We need someone who is going to give us a lot more than a short-term bounce, or a quick fix.

Good post and I agree with all your manager related points.

Whilst I don't hate Lampard as much as yourself, I do however find him a "bit of a tit" and I wouldn't be best pleased if he was appointed...  however,  there is no one in the history of humanity that is worse than Brendan " the odious, back stabbing, lying dwarf " Rodgers.

He gets unfair criticism IMO. I'd take Lampard.

It won't be quick as in, before the season has finished but Southampton will definitely have the jump on us over the next 3/4 weeks while we flounder about.

quite jealous that they've acted quickly and appropriately. They've stated their intention nice and early that they're looking for a new manager. It'll be Danny Rohl and they'll get him in a few weeks before pre-season starts.

We won't sack Ruud until the season is over and then we'll piss about for a month trying to find someone.

I wouldn’t mind Martin as long as he’s learned from some of his mistakes he made in the Premier League. He has a clear way of wanting to play.

I’d rather see us go down the route of getting a manager whose strength lies in employing a really effective pressing system, rather than possession, though. Bournemouth have been the Premier League’s biggest over achievers this season and that’s come from how effective Iraola’s system has been for them - if we’re to get promoted then over achieve to stay up then I think it’s a good idea to look at the trend of how effective that’s been for them.

I think as others have stated that he's been sacked because their relegation is now official, and there is obviously a clause in his contract allowing it. Whether our clown troupe had the foresight to write one into RVN's remains to be seen, but Southampton will only have a two or three week headstart on us if they do.

A big enough head start as it is, notwithstanding the fact that our directors will all go on holiday once the season is over for 2/3 weeks where nothing will happen.
