For me anything you have to look at 12 replays to decide is not clear and obvious.

No issue with the Coady one but I think the Thomas was harsh.

No issue with the Coady one. It’s a clear penalty.

Also agree regarding the clear and obvious but for me I think they’ve gone past the clear and obvious threshold, you’ve seen them given and you’ve seen them waved away even with a second look from VAR without having to go to on field review. I get looking at every minute thing when a goal has been scored, begrudgingly. But for a subjective decision that’s a red card, penalty etc if they can’t see after 3 looks then stick with what the ref has gone with. They’re going too forensic into things.

There is always contact in football, contact doesn't mean its a foul.

In the law of the game a foul is deemed as a physical offence which is unfair.

For me both players are tussling and pulling at each other, so Thomas contact isn't unfair.

I understand that, but it wasn’t a shoulder barge or an arm strong holding him.  He had a fist full of shirt and pulled him back. The player went to ground easily but Thomas the idiot gave him the excuse.  Our defence has constant poor positioning and are physically weak.

Almost all our team are bad at defending, pressing and tackling is as rare as a city goal.

Not sure how we didn't get a penalty when Estupian blocked McAteer at 0-0.

It was a blatent foul and more of a penalty than the foul by Thomas

I thought the two instances were as good as identical.  To give a pen for one and not the other was gross inconsistency.

The abuse of VAR is a bit of joke, they said they was giving on field decisions unless it was clear and obvious.

Just shows you how they can bend the rules as they see fit.

How did that not get given at a penalty on McAteer with the one they got?

Literally not trying to play the ball and just pushes McAteer over with both hands!

It feels like Brighton could be in trouble in the next couple of years. They have probably peaked and seem to be getting stale that we know all about. It wouldn’t be surprising to see them as the closest challengers to the promoted sides at the bottom next season (though it will be the promoted 3 that go back down of course).

That chat with the ex Brighton players in the hospitality areas yesterday was very gloomy, and I couldn’t believe it… They’re Brighton and Hove Albion and are 10th in the PL. They are in a group of clubs - like us - who have work smart to maintain PL status year on year. They’ve done amazingly well to relatively consolidate based on where they’ve come from. Their model was similar to ours and many others before, but if not done well and you reinvest big sales poorly it soon catches up with you. They will go down eventually. Perhaps not next season, but within the next 5 years it wouldn’t surprise me to see them go down.

I said at the start of this season I thought they’d struggle this year, at the minute though they’ve got a great eye for young players no one else is finding and that’s helping them massively. If they can stay in that cycle then they’ll be fine but inevitably players like Mitoma, Buonanotte, Enciso, are going to want more than finishing 8th/9th with the odd Europa league campaign. And that’s where the downfall starts.

They’ve had a very tough season with injuries

Which is what we used to say ourselves.

Something feels massively off with Brighton imho. Tail end of last season under De Zerbi they were woeful and i think this season they have been really inconsistent. Mavididi arguably had his 2 best games against them and they offered very little resistance to him. Mavadid hasn't had a sniff against most teams. I thought in the last 10 mins of both our games they looked like they were pretty clueless. We could have won it when BEK hit the post.

With better finishing we could have been dead and buried by half time.  They hit the woodwork twice.

Better display by City in the second half when they showed a bit of spirit and fight and started moving the ball forward instead of playing tippy tappy.

That’s football.

If you look at the xG table, we’d still be in the bottom three.

Genuinely think both of their penalty claims were rightly awarded but also think our shout on McAteer should have been given.

Nice to see a bit of fight amongst the group - be good to see this attitude for the rest of the season.

I know we gave up a lot of chances too but we definitely play better in this shape and as a few others have said - we need to be starting Mavididi. His energy and ability to take on a man is so valuable and keeps us up the other end of the pitch a bit longer.
