It’s very early in the season, but they already look jaded and no evidence of competitive passion

Absolutely spot on about competitive passion. The young guys and Ricardo have the fire and ability but are hampered by crap players and a crap manager/poor tactician.  Abdul is expected to do everything, all the time.  He looks like he’s making more mistakes, but he’s making a teams worth of errors as it’s not shared out.

Marti lets them play the same way every game yet he doesn’t seem to change or add anything to it or fix the mistakes.  Unsure if he watches the games back or looks for weaknesses in the opposition.

We are always one Thomas back pass or Ayew “hold up play” from stinking out and ending up with Jakob kicking the ball out under pressure.

Every week we get skinned by simple 1-2s.  Zero managerial curiosity from Marti to check out that play and introduce it.

I couldn’t care less about his waffle in interviews.

In possession Hamza steps alongside Winks, James steps forward alongside Ramsey. 3-2-4-1.

I'd kill for actual ambition to attack out wide rather than funnel everything into the middle of the park at walking pace, then passing to Abdul or Monga and hoping they can beat 2 or 3 men and create something out of nothing.

Kristiansen has to start if that's the case. He's the only full back with the athleticism to get on the outside at pace.

Agree with some of this, but it does ignore the fact that we looked good first half. Competely dominated, created cances, had 12 shots, 4 on target and obviously went 1-0 up. So we do have the potential to do it. This was with Monga completely nulified too.

It is a big worry though that Pompey came out looking much better and we just couldn't respond and not could Marti.

Not being arrogant but there's no one in this league we should fear.

The players need a huge kick up the arse and to get at this lot tomorrow night.

If they do we'll win it's as simple as that.

If we're half hearted, stand off, not commit then it'll be another turgid performance and result.

Marti needs to start getting into them more

Beginning to believe we are playing for a draw from the kick off .... inability to kill teams off will cost dearly.... draws are of no use if you are going anywhere... and we don't appear to be ...

You're suggesting we're deliberately not winning games?

I know there are plenty who are absolutely loving us having a (relatively) slow start but this is an extraordinary claim.

It wont happen as its not Marti's style, but a man can dream lol

We do stuff like that when were desperate to score at the end of games. Would be good if we could take that tempo and desire into the first 80

Quit the inverted full back nonsense, it's simple for me...

Stolarczyk
Ricardo / Faes / Vesty / Kristiansen

James & Winks

Abdul / Ramsey / Mav

Ayew

Ayew to hold up the ball and link up with the 3 behind him

What’s the solution if we don’t invert them to create overloads?

All of our goal scoring threat is coming from midfield, someone has to cover the space Ramsey and James vacate when they attack the box.

Decent 4-2-3-1-9 formation there.

Still 1-1

Still wouldn't score more than 1 with 9 forwards 😂

No not at all .... but we lack the quality to put teams to the sword ... and in this league which is quite a poor standard if we had the qualities we should be able to do so... we seem to get a lead and then sit and give the opposition chances to get back into the game .. which the results show ... its not an extraordinary claim the results cannot lie ....

You said that we're playing for draws. Why would be deliberately do that?

Use them or lose them. Wonder if Evans will be rewarded for signing his contract. Would like to see Page back in to replace injured BDCR.

Hamza - Okoli - Vestergaard - Thomas

  Fatawu   -   Ramsey   -   Ayew

Begovic / Nelson / Ricardo / Skipp / Soumaré / Page / Monga / Evans / Carranza

I'm more and more of the opinion that the manager (Marti or whoever) can only do so much if the team collectively switch off for a third of the game, as we've seen repeatedly in the last 18 months. And without any leaders, there's nobody holding them to account on the pitch. What I wouldn't give to see Walsh or Taggart laying in to these bastards when they down tools!

It makes it more and more frustrating when Faes et al keep getting games. We're done with these half arsed numpties.

Mainly because we offer absolutely no threat up front, very few goals from elsewhere and it it seems once we get a lead the idea is to defend it sooner than increasing the lead ...  and with the defensive mistakes we consistently make a draw is the most likely outcome .... take a look at the draws so far ... so our game plan makes the most likely outcome to be a draw ... playing for a draw or playing not to lose ... fine margins
